Many migrant workers leave their home countries to escape violence. However, it seems that even in the US, violence is with them after an SUV ran over a group of migrants near a North Carolina Walmart.

According to the Daily Mail, local police noted that the vehicular assault was intentional and targeted the migrant workers. Six of the migrants have been injured and were transported to a nearby medical facility with various injuries. However, police have confirmed that none of these injuries are life-threatening,

Footage from nearby cameras showed the driver cutting over a median and into a grassy area between parking spaces. He then plowed through the area where the migrant workers were standing around, injuring some of them.

North Carolina Police Still Looking for SUV Driver Who Ran Over Migrant Workers Intentionally

The Lincolnton Police Department posted images of the vehicle responsible for the hit-and-run assault on its Facebook page. The post confirmed that the attack happened at a Walmart located at 306 North Generals Blvd, Lincolnton, North Carolina.

Police are now looking for the vehicle and its driver and are asking for assistance. The vehicle is described as an older model mid-size black Sport Utility Vehicle with a luggage rack, while the driver was described as an older white male.

Police are also looking into the possible motive for the driver running into the migrant workers, though many have pointed out that this was a possible hate crime as anti-immigrant sentiment is strong in the South, especially in deep-red states like North Carolina.

Police also noted that the injured migrant workers were transported to Atrium Health - Lincoln where their injuries are being treated.

The Facebook post solicited outrage from many of Lincolnton's residents, especially among the Hispanic community. One person who shared the post called it an "intentional act of violence" while another Latino Facebook user called the driver a "Fu**ing clown" and says that he hopes the police will find him and charge him with attempted murder.

North Carolina Police Already Talked to Injured Migrant Workers

Major Brian R. Greene of the Lincolnton Police Department confirmed the New York Times that none of those that the SUV hit are in critical condition. He added that the migrants were only standing around outside the Walmart when the SUV intentionally ran over them.

The police major also stated that he had already spoken with the migrants and found that none of them have any apparent connection to the driver of the vehicle.

 "We're trying to locate the individual that did this," he added. "Right now, we don't have a lot."

This is the latest attack on migrants, which includes an incident last May where a Range Rover intentionally ran over a group of migrants waiting at a bus stop in Brownsville,Texas. The driver was soon arrested and charged with manslaughter and other charges after he killed eight of the migrants.
