Tory Lanez's Dad Gets Emotional in Plea To Help Rapper After Megan Thee Stallion Shooting
The Megan Thee Stallion shooting was once one of the music world's biggest scandals. Now, rapper Tory Lanez is about to be sentenced for the attack that wounded the "W.A.P." rapper.
Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is facing a 13-year sentence that Los Angeles prosecutors are asking the judge to hand down. The rapper was found guilty and convicted of three felonies, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm; having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle; and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
According to the Associated Press, Megan Thee Stallion testified during the trial and stated under oath that Lanez fired his gun as she was walking away from an SUV that they had been riding in the summer of 2020. This was after the two left a party at Kylie Jenner's Hollywood Hills home.
After he was convicted, Christian minister Sonstar Peterson, Tory Lanez's father, asked for leniency for his son.
Peterson fought back tears while talking about his wife, who died of a rare blood disorder.
"I don't think anybody ever gets over that," said the rapper's father regarding his embattled child. "But his music became his outlet."
Sonstar Peterson notedly grew emotional after the jury read out their guilty verdict against his son. Deputies had to wrestle him out of the courtroom after the verdict was revealed. The pastor has since expressed his regret for the outburst.
"I want to personally apologize to you," he told the judge during the trial. "It was an overwhelming time."
