Donald Trump Reveals His Story on 2020 Election Scandal: It 'Was Rigged'
Donald Trump sat down with NBC and talked about his attempts to overturn the 2020 election, once again falsely claiming it was rigged despite all the court cases and evidence that have proven it was not.
While he once again pushed several debunked claims, he did admit it was his decision to push them
"It was my decision, but I listened to some people," the former president said during the "Meet the Press" interview on NBC.
"I was listening to different people, and when I added it all up, the election was rigged," he added. "You know who I listen to? Myself. I saw what happened."
Trump also admitted that his lawyers told him that he lost the election but then admitted that he did not listen to them because he did not respect them.
"You hire them, you've never met these people, you get a recommendation, they turn out to be RINOs (Republicans in name only), or they turn out to be not so good. In many cases, I didn't respect them," he told NBC News host Kristen Welker.
Trump notedly also admitted that he only listens to people whose opinions he wants to hear, saying, "But I did respect others. I respected many others that said the election was rigged."
CNN noted that Special Counsel Jack Smith thinks that Trump knew that he actually lost the elections, as he had been repeatedly told that he lost and that the elections were not rigged. His own administration's personnel have publicly stated that it was not.
Donald Trump Talks About January 6, Refuses To Admit How He Watched Capitol Riot Happen
Welker also brought up the issue of January 6 where Trump is also facing an investigation over as part of his 2020 election overturn attempts. He was reportedly called by several allies and aides begged him to call off the attack, particularly several allies in Congress, as the Capitol Insurrection was unfolding. However, he refused to say who were the people who called him.
"Why would I tell you that?" he said.
Welker then pressed him about his very public silence as the violence was unfolding and also over his claims that he had made "beautiful statements" before the attack.

According to the Associated Press, Trump's own aides at that time have stated that he sequestered himself in the room off the Oval Office and watched the riot take place. He even rewinded and watched several parts.
Trump then noted that he would pardon his supporters jailed over January 6 should he win the presidency, saying, "I'm going to look at them, and I certainly might if I think it's appropriate" to pardon them.
Donald Trump's NBC Interview Fact-Checked by NBC
NBC, which conducted the interview with Trump, also fact-checked him soon after and debunked many of the lies that he told during "Meet the Press."
He claimed that immigrants are "flooding US cities and claimed that there will be around 15 million immigrants by the time the interview ended. NBC News noted that US Border Patrol has apprehended or turned away more than 2.5 million people in 2023, debunking claims that nothing is being done about it. It was noted that Trump presented no evidence that "15 million people will cross the border this year."
He also claimed that the US "gave $85 billion worth of equipment to the Taliban." However, NBC found this to be false as the Department of Defense estimated last year that the Afghan government only had more than $7.1 billion of military equipment that was funded by the US government.
Trump also claimed that bacon is five times more expensive than it used to be. However, this is also false as the price of sliced bacon is only around 12% of what it used to be when he left office.
