Adam Richman 'Man Finds Food' Instagram & Twitter Feud: Travel Channel Postpones Show After Social Media Disaster
"Man vs. Food" star Adam Richman may have gotten his new Travel Channel show canceled after an Instagram fight amongst followers over body image issues.
"Man Finds Food," where Richman travels the country searching for hidden food gems, was supposed to debut July 2, but the channel announced that it would postpone the show's release with no word on a later premiere date. This change was likely prompted by a feud between Richman and his many social media followers.
The online arguing was sparked by Richman's post of a picture in late June, revealing his recent 70-pound weight loss, with the hashtag "#thinspiration." There are negative connotations with "thinspiration," particularly since it has been associated online with pro-anorexic posts of sickly bodies promoting starvation as a weight-loss technique. When fans alerted Richman to the trigger word, he unleashed several expletive-filled responses.
Richman tweeted at @thefattestfox, "oh eat a bag of s*t, dummy. No apology is coming," while tweeting "DILLIGAF" ("Do I look like I give a f*ck?") at another who tried to explain the harm his words might cause people. He even reportedly told one Twitter user to "grab a razor blade & draw a bath."
After these responses were deleted off of Twitter and Instagram, the Travel Channel star quickly tweeted an apology, which also has since been deleted: "Yes. I've responded to Internet hate recently with vile words directed at those hating me. I am sorry, I should know better & will do better...In real life, if you say stuff you regret in anger, you cool down, apologize & move on. If you're a celeb on social media -- it becomes a blog."
He issued an apology statement Friday, saying he wanted to apologize for his "inexcusable remarks" and that his behavior was "unbecoming and unacceptable."
"I'm not asking for sympathy," he said, "but rather understanding and forgiveness. I can say with certainty that I'm taking a deep look at myself, and I'm incredibly sorry to everyone I've hurt."
Travel Channel has not made any public comments about the incident or about the future of "Man Finds Food."
