Over the past two days, Eagle Pass, Texas, has experienced a significant influx of migrants, some passing through Shelby Park, per FOX 29.

Sources in Panama, where many of these migrants begin their journey to North America, suggest that the rumored closure of the border between Colombia and Panama has triggered this mass migration.

Texas migrants continued to arrive Monday afternoon, and State Representative Eddie Morales informed them that a majority had initially arrived near the border in Piedras Negras by train.

In response to the escalating situation, Morales mentioned that he was asked to draft a state of emergency declaration by the city manager at the mayor's request.

Border patrol authorities encountered between 2,200 and 2,500 migrants on Monday morning alone, who were then turned over to border patrol custody.

The small city of Eagle Pass now faces concerns about managing the situation if these numbers continue to rise.

Morales explained, "For some reason, they've taken over the Union Pacific railroad depot on the Mexican side, Ferromex, and now they are jumping on the trains."

Many of the asylum seekers arriving in the area come from countries such as Venezuela, Ecuador, and Haiti, according to information from border patrol sources.

However, what is particularly concerning are reports from Panamanian media outlets, which show migrants attempting to cross the treacherous Darien Gap jungle between Colombia and Panama in large numbers.

Texas Migrant Rush Caught on Video

Video footage during midnight hours revealed Texas migrants wading through deep waters to reach the other side, surprising local Mexican residents.

One observer on camera noted that only a small portion of the group was crossing at that moment, with hundreds more following behind.

By daylight, Border Patrol had gathered the group as they huddled under a bridge in Eagle Pass, according to the Daily Mail.

These incidents occurred in Piedras Negras, the Mexican town located directly across the river from Eagle Pass, with those crossing the border doing so near the port of entry, seemingly disregarding immigration rules and regulations.

This situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the Biden Administration concerning border security.

President Biden had urged potential migrants not to journey to the US in March 2021, emphasizing the consequences of illegal border crossings.

This recent wave of migrants, primarily from Venezuela, is believed to have traveled through Panama.

Similar scenarios have unfolded along the border, straining resources in towns and federal processing centers as the influx of crossings continues challenging the nation.

Texas State of Emergency

The city of Eagle Pass, Texas, declared a state of emergency due to the situation, with Mayor Rolando Salinas stating, "The City of Eagle Pass is committed to the safety and well-being of our local citizens.

The emergency declaration allows us to request financial resources to provide the additional services caused by the influx of undocumented immigrants."

The Texas state of emergency will be in place for one week, Border Patrol noted.

Additionally, US Customs and Border Protection announced a shutdown of vehicle traffic at Eagle Pass Bridge 1 with Mexico, starting at 6 pm The closure, due to the significant influx of migrants in the region, will require all vehicles to use Bridge 2 for crossing to Mexico and the United States.

Pedestrian services will continue to operate under normal hours of operation.
