The latest development in Sophie Turner-Joe Jonas divorce says that the "Game of Thrones" star has filed a lawsuit against her estranged pop star husband, seeking the return of their two young children to England, according to NBC News.

The couple recently announced their separation after four years of marriage.

Sophie Turner claims their children, born in 2020 and 2022, have been wrongfully retained in New York City since September 20, departing from their habitual residence in England, according to court documents filed in the Southern District of New York.

The petition explains that Turner and Joe Jonas made England their permanent home in April to have their children attend school there.

They began renting a home on a long-term basis in May and entered contracts to purchase a home in July, planning to move there in December.

However, their relationship became strained due to complex travel arrangements over the summer.

As Turner began filming a new drama series in the UK in May, the couple decided that their children would travel with Joe Jonas and a nanny as he embarked on his tour with the Jonas Brothers in the United States in late July.

The plan was for the children to stay with Joe Jonas and his extended family until Turner completed filming, after which she would travel to New York in mid-September and then return to the UK with the kids.

Unfortunately, the Sophie Turner-Joe Jonas divorce happened.

Sophie Turner Claims Joe Jonas Refuses to Return Kids' Passports

Sophie Turner's petition said that on or around September 17, she met with Joe Jonas to discuss their separation and reiterated the plan for the children to return to England that week, TODAY noted.

However, Joe Jonas allegedly refused to return their passports and declined to send the children to England.

Sophie Turner's petition was filed through the Hague Abduction Convention, an international treaty designed to provide a civil solution for parents seeking the return of a child wrongfully removed or retained across international borders.

The filing does not directly accuse Joe Jonas of abduction but cites jurisdiction under the International Child Abduction Remedies Act.

The court documents state that the children are fully integrated into daily and cultural life in England, receiving routine medical and dental care there, and their older daughter attended nursery school in the country.

Joe Jonas Claps Back at Sophie Turner's Lawsuit

Joe Jonas has responded to the lawsuit through his representative, asserting that he did not "abduct" their daughters, said Page Six.

He characterizes the lawsuit as a departure from the amicable co-parenting arrangement they had been working toward.

Following the Sophie Turner-Joe Jonas divorce, the pop star maintains that he seeks shared parenting and is open to the children being raised both in the US and the UK, emphasizing that the children are American citizens as they were born in the United States.

The legal dispute restricts both Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner from relocating with their children, with Jonas' representative emphasizing the unfortunate nature of the disagreement as their marriage comes to an end.

The representative disputes the use of the term "abduction" and considers it misleading, suggesting that it is an abuse of the legal system.
