Former Miss Uruguay Sherika De Armas Cause of Death: Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer begins with the growth of cells in the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus connecting to the vagina,m according to Mayo Clinic.
Most cervical cancers are caused by various strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), a common infection spread through sexual contact.
While the body's immune system typically combats HPV, it can survive in a small percentage of people for years, contributing to the transformation of cervical cells into cancer cells.
Preventative measures include screening tests and vaccines to protect against HPV infection.
When cervical cancer does occur, it is often treated with surgery to remove the cancer, alongside treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
In some cases, the treatment approach for cervical cancer may involve combining radiation therapy with low-dose chemotherapy.
