Three days after Sidney Powell flipped against him and promised to sing, Donald Trump took to Truth Social and went on a tirade and claimed that she was never his lawyer. Legal experts consider the Sidney Powell flip to be the most significant turn during the Georgia election case as it might spell trouble for the former president when she finally testifies.

"Sidney Powell was one of millions and millions of people who thought, and in ever increasing numbers still think, correctly, that the 2020 Presidential Election was RIGGED & STOLLEN (sic), AND OUR COUNTRY IS BEING ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED BECAUSE OF IT!!! MS. POWELL WAS NOT MY ATTORNEY, AND NEVER WAS. In fact, she would have been conflicted," Trump wrote on his social media platform in an attempt to distance himself from her.

However, CNN noted that back on November 15, 2020, the then-POTUS publicly announced that he "added" Powell to his "truly great team" of lawyers working on the election. That team included other Trump Georgia election case co-defendants Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis.

As a member of that now-indicted legal team, Powell infamously spread unfounded conspiracy theories about an international vote-rigging plot to get Joe Biden to win the elections. Thousands of Trump supporters still believe her conspiracy theories to this day.

Trump then dropped her from his legal team after her repeated defeats over his election challenges and claimed that she was "practicing law on her own." This did not stop her from filing various election-related lawsuits that courts deemed frivolous. A judge infamously admonished her and stated that her actions were "a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process."

Why the Sidney Powell Flip Could Become a Disaster for Donald Trump

So far, three of the 18 Trump co-defendants in the sprawling Georgia RICO case have flipped, including two big names and they are Sidney Powell and fake elector scheme mastermind Kenneth Chesebro. These three flips are considered a big win for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

"The real import of this plea is the signal it sends to the other defendants," former federal prosecutor Chris Mattei told The Hill. "Number one, that your time is running out for you to cooperate because as cooperators come in and plead guilty, the prosecution continues to build its case and may not have a need to cooperate with other individuals."

The flipped co-defendants are not facing any jail time for their actions and have gotten relative slaps on the wrist. However, they did agree to testify in future trials and that may give Trump a pause for concern.

"There's a whole number of people that she was dealing with who you would expect she would be able to offer testimony against, including Rudy Giuliani and others," Mattei noted.

Sidney Powell Flip Might Also Affect Federal Election Interference Case Vs. Donald Trump

Sidney Powell agreeing to a plea deal might also mean trouble for Donald Trump in his federal election case, also known as the January 6 case, as Powell played a vital role in spreading false information that led many of Trump's followers to believe that the election was stolen.

According to Politico, the Sidney Powell flip also stunned many lawyers representing January 6 defendants. As many noted, she only received a slap on the wrist, which was nothing compared to the harsh punishments many of their clients received.

"Gobsmacked is certainly an appropriate description considering the sentences that have been imposed against others who believed the lies spread by Donald Trump, Sidney Powell and others," said one of these January 6 attorneys, Bjorn Brunvand. He represents January 6 rioter Robert Palmer, who attacked an officer on that fateful day.

"The rules we all share are not applied equitably to all. Frequently, deals are made with the highest-ranking players in criminal conspiracies, while the pawns receive the most significant sentences," Brunvand stated.
