George Floyd Killer and Ex-Policeman Derek Chauvin Stabbed in Prison
Convicted killer and former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who was incarcerated for the death of George Floyd, has been stabbed inside an Arizona prison last Friday. However, he is expected to survive as his condition is now stable.
The Bureau of Prisons confirmed that one incarcerated inmate has been stabbed at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona. The agency stated that the incident was immediately contained and that employees at the scene were able to perform "life-saving measures" on the inmate who was not named. That inmate was taken to a hospital for further treatment and evaluation soon after.
A source familiar with the matter spoke with the Associated Press and revealed that the inmate was in fact, Derek Chauvin, who would have likely had a target on his back just for being a former police officer.
As for the facility that Chauvin was incarcerated in, the FCI Tucson has been known to be "plagued by security lapses and staffing shortages." The incident itself was dealt with quickly and none of the prison employees were injured. The FBI has also been notified of the attack.
Derek Chauvin is serving 22 and a half years in prison for the second-degree murder of George Floyd and is serving it simultaneously e for violating Floyd's civil rights. His lawyer, Eric Nelson, had tried to get him out of the general population and away from other inmates as he was expected to be a target.
The former Minnesota police officer has become infamous for being responsible for the death of George Floyd after video evidence showed that he, pressed a knee on Floyd's neck for 9½ minutes on the street outside a convenience store all because Floyd was suspected of trying to use a fake $20 bill.
Floyd had complained "I can't breathe" and this has since become a battle cry for civil rights and Black Lives Matter activists from around the world.

Derek Chauvin Expected To Survive Prison Attack
Chauvin's injuries during the stabbing incident in Arizona were characterized as "serious" and this was confirmed by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. However, that same AG also stated that the former officer is going to live as he is now in a stable condition.
"I am sad to hear that Derek Chauvin was the target of violence," said the Minnesota AG. "He was duly convicted of his crimes and, like any incarcerated individual, he should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation or violence."
Supreme Court Dismissed George Floyd Killer's Appeal Shortly Before Stabbing Incident
Last week, just a few days before his stabbing, George Floyd tried to have the US Supreme Court step in with his case. However, that plea was a longshot bid to overturn his federal guilty plea and it was rejected by the highest court in the land.
According to CBS News, Chauvin's argument was that the decision to keep the proceedings in Minneapolis was depriving him of his right to a fair trial because of all the publicity. However, experts believed there was little to no chance of the Supreme Court agreeing to this, and as it turned out, they were right.
