Shocking only to people who don't follow film, moviegoers will have no shortage of familiar IPs to watch in 2024. Here are some movies to look out for this new year.

1) "The Book of Clarence" (Jan. 12, 2024)

Clarence, played by LaKeith Stanfield, is a man living in Jerusalem in 29 A.D. pretending to be a messianic figure for his own profit following the coming of Jesus Christ. "The Book of Clarence" is, fittingly, a story of redemption. Based on what we see in the film's official trailer, Clarence's quest to right his wrongs pits him against Roman authorities, represented here as the very Pontius Pilate (played by James McAvoy) of biblical infamy. Directed by Jeymes Samuel (aka The Bullitts), the film counts Samuel and hip-hop mogul Jay-Z among its producers.

2) "Bob Marley: One Love" (Feb. 14)

Iconic Jamaican singer Bob Marley is getting the Hollywood treatment, his life being the subject of "Bob Marley: One Love," a biographical drama scheduled for a Valentine's Day release. Marley, who passed away at age 36 on May 11, 1981, is played by British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, who portrayed American civil rights leader Malcolm X in 2020's "One Night in Miami..." and appeared as a Ken in "Barbie" last year. The film was co-produced by, among others, two of the reggae singer's children, Ziggy Marley and Cedella Marley, and his widow, Rita Marley. Rita is played by Marvel Cinematic Universe actress Lashana Lynch in the film.

3) "Dune: Part Two" (March 1)

Timothee Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, protagonist of the epic sci-fi action franchise based on author Frank Herbert's 1965 book, "Dune." "Euphoria" star Zendaya reprises her role as Chani, the Fremen warrior. The 2024 sequel follows Paul's effort to avenge the coup that nearly ended his bloodline. In 2021's "Dune," House Atreides' patriarch, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), is assassinated, forcing Paul and his expectant mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), into exile on the desert planet of Arrakis.

4) "The American Society of Magical Negroes" (March 22)

Written, directed and co-produced by Kobi Libii, "The American Society of Magical Negroes" is a satirical comedy based on the "Magical Negro" trope in American cinema. The trailer depicts a magical society of people whose purpose is the make the lives of white people easier since decreasing white discomfort increases the safety of African Americans. Recruited into this society is Aren - played by Justice Smith - who develops feelings for the same woman, Lizzie (An-Li Bogan), his white client, Jason (Drew Tarver), is pursuing - which makes this film a romcom wrapped inside of a racial satire.

5) "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" (April 12)

After facing off in 2021 in "Godzilla vs. Kong" - with Godzilla winning the fight but needing Kong's help soon after to save the day - Warner Bros. Pictures' MonsterVerse returns with "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" this spring. The film, which stars Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews and Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes, brings our two favorite Titans together to once again battle a huge threat, this time from within Earth itself. The plot promises viewers a deeper dive into the history of both Titans and Skull Island, Kong's home.
