US-Mexico Border: Migrants Pretending To Be Minors To Increase Chance of Getting Into the US
US-Mexico border agents in the Tucson, Arizona sector are grappling with a surge of immigrants from Guinea who are employing deceptive tactics to enter the United States illegally, according to an internal alert obtained by Fox News.
The alert highlights a concerning trend where individuals alter their ages and falsely claim to be unaccompanied minors, enhancing their chances of gaining entry.
The internal Border Patrol notice guides agents, detailing what to look for and offering examples of authentic and forged Guinean passports.
Passports issued in Conakry, Guinea's capital, after June 2023 are flagged as "most likely fraudulent or altered."
Furthermore, the alert suggests potential involvement of the Guinean government in the fraud, with indications that officials may be advising individuals to change their ages for a higher likelihood of entering the US as minors.
The deceptive practice mainly involves adults claiming to be unaccompanied children, creating challenges for border enforcement.
The notice also highlights a claim from one migrant about an "illicit group" pilfering blank passport books from the Conakry ministry and illicitly distributing them without following proper procedures.
Surge of Guinean Immigrants in US-Mexico Border
Fox News reports a notable increase in Guinean men crossing into the US through the Tucson sector, with nearly 170 Guinean nationals crossing daily, per the NY Post.
Former Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf expressed deep concern about the situation, especially given the record number of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border in December.
Wolf emphasized the overwhelming numbers, stating that such situations put a strain on border patrol and enabled smugglers and cartels to exploit vulnerabilities.
Allegations of coaching individuals on border-crossing techniques, including passport alterations, have raised significant concerns.
Wolf lamented the broken state of the system, urging attention to the urgent need for comprehensive immigration policies.
Record-High Migrant Encounters at the US-Mexico Border
December witnessed an unprecedented surge in migrant encounters at the US southern border, surpassing 276,000, according to BNN.
This record-high figure, encompassing both illegal immigrants intercepted between ports of entry and migrants entering at ports of entry, highlights the persistent US migration crisis faced by border security agencies.
The escalating US migration activity has triggered debates around border security and immigration reform.
Amid the US migration crisis, the southern border has also witnessed an alarming increase in migrant fatalities, particularly in the Border Patrol's El Paso Sector, where 149 deaths were recorded in the 12 months through September.
The rising number of women perishing at the US-Mexico border and the inadequacy of infrastructure to identify and return remains to families pose significant challenges.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has accused the Joe Biden administration of aiding drug cartels by allegedly encouraging a swift influx of migrants.
The US migration crisis has intensified political tensions, underscoring the critical need for effective immigration policies and border security measures.
