Are You Ready for Some Football ... In Español? Super Bowl LVIII Available in Spanish on Televisaunivision
Last Year, Super Bowl Broadcaster CBS and NFL Partnered With Televisaunivision to Televise Super Bowl LVIII in Spanish
As a result of the partnership TelevisaUnivision made with CBS and the National Football League last year, Spanish speakers will be able to watch Super Bowll LVIII programming from start to finish in their native tongue.
Sunday marks TelevisaUnivision's first time televising the Super Bowl in its 78-year history, after previous turns of the like were taken by NBC Universal's Telemundo and Fox Deportes in recent years.
Reporter Guillermo Schutz and broadcaster Ramses Sandoval "will be calling the game," Sports Business Journal reported this week.
The Spanish-language delivery of Super Bowl LVIII - between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers - presents sponsors with a low-risk, high-reward ad-buying opportunity.
According to Digiday - citing a report by Variety - a 30-second spot on the TelevisaUnivision telecast of Sunday's big game that costs up to $250,000 would command $7 million on CBS, the game's English-language broadcaster.
"It's been incredible to see so many brands embracing the opportunity to reach consumers in Spanish for this year's game, and our focus has been ensuring they have the insights and resources they need to make the biggest possible impact with our audience," TelevisaUnivision Executive Vice President of Multimedia Sales John Kozack told Digiday.
"Viewers will see spots from several brands, including Audi, BetMGM, Experian, metro by T-Mobile, Nissan, TurboTax, Total by Verizon, Totino's, Volkswagen and more," Kozack continued. "There are also a number of brands that are advertising in both English- and Spanish-language broadcasts, extending their reach across both audiences. CBS has been a great partner to work with on this."
One of the brands mentioned by Kozack, Total by Verizon - a prepaid mobile phone provider previously known as TracFone Wireless - produced an ad in which singer Elvis Crespo's 1998 merengue mega-hit, "Suavemente," was remade into a two-minute piece titled "Totalmente."
According to Digiday, the TelevisaUnivision telecast Sunday begins at 4 p.m. EST and will feature "extensive coverage of various talent from the network, as well as a special performance by Puerto Rican singer/songwriter Mike Towers."
The same report added that ex-NFL kicker Martín Gramática - a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that won Super Bowl XXXVII - and 2022 World Games flag football women's tournament gold medalist Diana Flores will play supporting roles in TelevisaUnivision's coverage of Super Bowl LVIII.
The main CBS broadcast team will be made up of play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz, color commentator and former NFL quarterback Tony Romo, sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson, and rules analyst Gene Steratore.
The Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, take on quarterback Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII at 6:30 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
