Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth Named MET Gala Co-Chairs
The annual fashion extravaganza in New York City known as the Met Gala has named its co-chairs for this year, and they are Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, and Chris Hemsworth, a veritable who's who of Hollywood, along with Vogue Magazine's Anna Wintour.
The magazine pointed out that while Bad Bunny, Zendaya, and Jennifer Lopez have previously attended the annual New York City event, this will be the very first time that Marvel star Chris Hemsworth, best known for his role as Thor Odinson, will be attending it.
Vogue magazine itself made the announcement via all of its social media channels, as well as videos of text messages from Anna Wintour to her co-chairs if they are free on May 6, 2024, which is when the Met Gala is scheduled to be held.
The Met Gala is often considered one of the biggest nights in the entertainment industry, as big names in fashion and Hollywood mingle at a charity event at the Met in New York City. It usually happens every first Monday of May.
Last year, the co-chairs were Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Roger Federer, and Michaela Coel. Its theme was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," complete with an exhibit, and its dress code was "in honor of Karl." One of last year's highlights included Jared Leto dressing up in a full cat costume in honor of Lagerfeld's beloved pet, Choupette.

According to Variety, the dress code is inspired by a 1962 short story by JG Ballard titled "Garden of Time."
This prompted co-chair and first-time attendee Chris Hemsworth to tweet out, "Anyone got a Garden of Time outfit I can borrow?" along with a text message chain from Anna Wintour inviting him to be a Met Gala co-chair.
There will also be a "Sleeping Beauties" exhibit this year, and it will feature around 250 items spanning 400 years from the Costume Institute's permanent collection. There will be around three main "zones" for the exhibition, and they include "Land," "Sea," and "Sky" exhibits.
What Is 'Garden of Time,' Met Gala's Dress Code for 2024 Event?
British author J. G. Ballard's short story centers around a garden filled with translucent, time-manipulating flowers. The author is known for his "searingly relevant dystopian stories in eras of ecological apocalypse or rising dissenting technologies."
"It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion," said Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute's Wendy Yu Curator in Charge. "One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion."
