Super Tuesday: No Donald Trump Sweep as Nikki Haley Wins Vermont, Joe Biden Notches Big Wins
While frontrunners Donald Trump and Joe Biden dominated their respective races, one surprise came out of Super Tuesday, and that was Nikki Haley preventing a Donald Trump sweep.
Super Tuesday is considered one of the most important dates in the United States presidential election calendar, with 15 states and one territory being up for grabs for both parties, with an additional mail-in race for the Democrats also taking place.
The first surprise of the race so far is in Vermont, a state whose Republicans are considered moderate. In its Republican primary for Super Tuesday, Nikki Haley has been projected to win the usually liberal state as she prevents what many predicted to be a sweep for Donald Trump.
According to Al Jazeera News, this is considered the first real upset of the day and also the first state that Haley has won in the primary. She previously won the primary for Washington, DC, despite losing against Trump in her home state of South Carolina.
Despite Nikki Haley's big Vermont win, however, Donald Trump's lead in delegates only widened as he still won more states than her. He won big states like Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Maine, Arkansas, Colorado, and Massachusetts. Trump also notched in big wins in California and Minnesota.
Joe Biden and Donald Trump Dominate Respective Races on Super Tuesday
The BBC has projected that Donald Trump won by large margins in nine states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. This has shown a far-right shift for the Republicans as more and more conservatives flock to the former president despite the myriad of criminal and civil cases he is facing.

However, exit polls have shown that those who voted for Haley are saying that they are unlikely to automatically vote for Donald Trump in the general elections in November.
As for Biden, he has already won states like Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, California, Utah, Minnesota, and Virginia. He has also won Iowa's mail-in race, per the BBC.
As of writing, Joe Biden is projected to win 14 Super Tuesday states so far, while his rival, Donald Trump, is currently projected to win 12 states. Meanwhile, Nikki Haley is still in the race with her projected win in Vermont. The results in Alaska, the Republican race in Utah, and the US territory of American Samoa are still being tallied.
Uncommitted Votes Haunting Joe Biden in Super Tuesday Over Israel Support
While President Biden handily won many of his races, he was challenged by protest votes from those protesting the US policy on Israel and Palestine, with a larger-than-expected number voting "Uncommitted."
In Minnesota, which has a high Muslim population, the "uncommitted" votes have reached around 20%. Meanwhile, more Democratic voters joined in on the protest against Biden's support of Israel, with the "uncommitted" voters exceeding 10% in North Carolina and reaching 10% in Massachusetts.
