Hawaii Man Kills Wife, 3 Kids in Alleged Murder-Suicide
In a heartbreaking incident, Honolulu police are currently investigating a tragic murder-suicide involving a family, including three children, at their residence in Manoa, Hawaii, according to AP News.
The devastating discovery was made on Sunday morning when officers responded to a distressing call from an anonymous person.
Initial attempts to contact the occupants were fruitless, leading the officers to leave the scene at 8:30 AM.
However, a subsequent call at 9:15 AM prompted their return, allowing them to enter the home.
Inside, they discovered a harrowing scene - four individuals, identified preliminarily as a wife and three children aged 10, 12, and 17, all fatally stabbed.
The husband, later revealed to be 46-year-old chiropractor Paris Oda, was also found dead, sparking murder-suicide speculations.
Lieutenant Deena Thoemmes, during a press conference, conveyed that the preliminary investigation indicated the Hawaii man was responsible for the fatal stabbings of his wife and children.
The cause of the Hawaii man's death remained under investigation.
Neighbors Shocked by Tragedy
While authorities did not officially disclose the identities of the Hawaii family, neighbors identified Paris Oda as the alleged perpetrator, with his 48-year-old wife, Naoko Oda, and their three children as the victims.
Neighbors expressed disbelief, describing the Oda family as a typical and festive presence in the community, the New York Post reports.
One resident, Hiro Izumo, shared, "They're like the typical, really festive family. They dress up the house for the holidays, and it's normal."
Another neighbor, Aime Wakai, expressed concern, stating, "Usually, we don't have a lot of crime around here; it's really quiet, so everyone wants to be safe."
Despite the shocking nature of the alleged murder-suicide incident, there was no prior history of domestic calls at the Oda residence, and the police had yet to determine a motive for the tragedy.
Witnesses, however, reported an argument at the home earlier on the fateful Sunday.
Community Grieves and Seeks Support
The devastating event has left the community in mourning, marking Hawaii's worst mass killing since the tragic Xerox murders of November 2, 1999, per Khon2.
On that day, Hawaii man Bryan Koji Uyesugi fatally shot seven Xerox co-workers, leaving an indelible scar on the state's history.
Honolulu Police Chief Joe Logan, providing moral support to his officers, acknowledged the profound impact the incident would have on their lives.
Mayor Rick Blangiardi expressed his sorrow, stating, "I am heartbroken by the tragic incident... claiming the lives of an entire family."
As the community grapples with the incomprehensible loss, dozens of students from various schools visited the Hawaii family residence to pay their respects.
Manoa Elementary School informed parents of the presence of a crisis intervention team on campus to provide comfort to students and staff.
Iolani School organized a gathering for students, faculty, and staff, with counseling teams available throughout the week.
Mayor Blangiardi urged the community to stand together in support and solidarity during this difficult time.
This inexplicable murder-suicide tragedy of the Hawaii family has deeply shaken Honolulu, and as the investigation unfolds, the community seeks solace and healing in the face of such profound loss.
