Donald Trump Adviser, Peter Navarro, Must Report To Prison Next Week, Rules Appeals Court
Another close associate of former President Donald Trump will be finding himself in jail as the DC Circuit Court of Appeals ordered former adviser Peter Navarro to report to prison after throwing out his bid to avoid going behind bars.
DC Circuit Judges Patricia Millett, Cornelia Pillard, and Robert Wilkins ruled that the Trump loyalist did not demonstrate sufficiently why he should remain free while he tried to appeal his conviction. The decision of the three-judge panel was unanimous.
According to CNN, the former White House official argued that a decision by the federal judge who oversaw his case to not let him raise an executive privilege defense at trial "was wrong." He also claimed that "the possibility that the appeals court might reverse that decision should keep him out of prison as the court weighs his case." However, the judges shut his arguments down.
Navarro "has not shown that his appeal presents substantial questions of law or fact likely to result in reversal, a new trial, a sentence that does not include a term of imprisonment or a reduced sentence of imprisonment," wrote the judges in their decision.
The three-judge panel rejected all of Peter Navarro's arguments and noted that the court may ultimately rule against him. They wrote that Navarro "makes no claim of absolute testimonial immunity, nor could he. A properly asserted claim of executive privilege would not have relieved him of the obligation to produce unprivileged documents and appear for his deposition to testify on unprivileged matters."
Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison for two counts of contempt of Congress. he, along with Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, did not comply with a subpoena from the House Select Committee on January 6, also known as the J6 Committee.

Why Did Donald Trump Adviser Peter Navarro Ignore a Congressional Subpoena?
While initially part of the Trump administration as the then-president's trade adviser, Peter Navarro joined in on Donald Trump's attempts to spread election misinformation and his conspiracy to overturn the election. This then led to the January 6 Committee issuing a subpoena to have him hand over documents and testify.
However, Navarro defied this order, arguing that he was under "executive privilege," an excuse that Donald Trump has often given but was often thrown out in the court of law.
The argument was considered a baseless one and US District Judge Amit Mehta barred him from making that argument at trial after Navarro failed to prove Trump invoked it, according to the Associated Press.
When Will Former Donald Trump Adviser Peter Navarro Report to Prison
With the DC Circuit Court of Appeals throwing out his efforts to stay out of jail, Peter Navarro must now report to prison by next week. To be specific, he must report by Tuesday, March 19, 2024, per The Hill.
Ex-White House adviser Steve Bannon is expected to join him in prison soon. He was also convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress last year and was also sentenced to four months in prison. However, a different judge said he could remain free as he awaits his appeal, according to The Hill.
