Lawyers representing Donald Trump and eight co-defendants have filed an urgent appeal against a Georgia judge's decision allowing Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to stay on the high-profile election fraud in Trump Georgia case.

The appeal argues that simply removing special prosecutor Nathan Wade is insufficient.

Willis and Wade confirmed their romantic relationship but denied any improper benefits or dishonesty related to their professional conduct, according to USA Today.

Trump's attorney, Steven Sadow, stressed that they aim to disqualify Willis and the entire DA's office, initially proposed in a motion filed with Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee on January 8.

Sadow acknowledged the Court's decision but expressed the belief that the Court didn't adequately acknowledge the prosecutorial misconduct by Willis and Wade, including the financial gains involved.

In the appeal filed on Monday, Sadow and other lawyers requested an immediate review by the Georgia Court of Appeals to challenge McAfee's ruling, which declined to dismiss the case or disqualify Fani Willis.

"The motion notes that the Court found that Willis' actions created an appearance of impropriety and an 'odor of mendacity' that lingers in this case, but it nonetheless refused to dismiss the case or disqualify her," the filing states.

Trump Seeks Bond Payment Delay in New York Financial Fraud Case

Donald Trump's legal team has petitioned a New York appeals court to delay a $464 million bond payment required for his appeal of a judgment in a financial fraud trial.

Trump's lawyers, Alina Habba and Clifford Robert informed the court that despite approaching 30 underwriters, they were unable to secure the bond amount, Yahoo! News reports.

The appeal aims to reduce the bond and postpone its payment until after the appeal is heard.

The trial, presided over by Judge Arthur Engoron, concluded with a judgment obliging Trump to pay $355 million plus interest for fraudulent business practices, including asset inflation for favorable loan and insurance rates.

Trump's legal representatives emphasized the challenge of obtaining the full bond amount and cautioned against potential financial losses if forced to sell real estate assets.

They also argued that the bond was unconstitutionally excessive.

Lead Prosecutor Resigns Amid Allegations in Trump Georgia Case

Following Judge Scott McAfee's ruling allowing Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to continue prosecuting the Georgia election interference case involving former President Donald Trump and his associates, lead prosecutor Nathan Wade promptly resigned.

The decision came after an attorney involved in the case shared allegations regarding Wade's qualifications and his romantic relationship with Fani Willis, The Washington Post noted.

The case focuses on allegations of conspiring to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, including Trump and several co-defendants.

Notably, four co-defendants have pleaded guilty, while Trump maintains a plea of not guilty.

As of now, no trial date has been set for the Trump Georgia case.
