The feud between former Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and embattled Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz continues as McCarthy reiterated Gaetz had a vendetta against him and ousted him from office to stop the investigation into his pedophilia and sex trafficking case.

"I'll give you the truth as to why I'm not Speaker," the former California Republican representative told a crowd during a speech at Georgetown University. "Because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old, an ethics complaint that started before I ever became Speaker...Did he do it or not? I don't know."

Matt Gaetz, a far-right MAGA Republican who is closely allied to Donald Trump, is accused of sex trafficking a minor across state lines. He is now under investigation from the House Ethics Committee over his activities involving pedophilia. McCarthy alleges that this very investigation was the reason why Gaetz filed the motion to oust him from the speakership.

Previously, a report revealed that Gaetz once admitted to a friend that he specifically targeted McCarthy to stop the House Ethics Committee probe against him. The Florida man has now fired back at McCarthy after those Georgetown University remarks.

"Kevin is a liar," he said in a statement. "Which, actually, is why he isn't Speaker. Just ask any of the 224 people who voted to remove him."

The Florida man claimed in public that he did not oust McCarthy because he was angry at him for allowing the House Ethics probe to happen but because the California congressman violated the "fundamental commitments" he made to become Speaker.

Kevin McCarthy Struggled Answering Questions Regarding Donald Trump Making Racist Remarks

During that same Georgetown University talk by Kevin McCarthy, the former California congressman also touched on his relationship with Donald Trump, particularly his controversial visit to Mar-a-Lago weeks after the January 6 Capitol Insurrection happened.

He defended the visit, saying, "Whether I like you or dislike you, if something bad happens in your life, I want to be the first person to call you," adding, "I thought I was going to go by and no one was going to know about it."

McCarthy infamously blasted Trump after the events of January 6 but came crawling back to him, visiting him at Mar-a-Lago soon after.

He was also questioned about Trump's violent rhetoric about immigrants "poisoning the blood" of the country. McCarthy tried to evade saying, "I have never heard him say that. Nobody's perfect in life," People could have a difference of opinion, but I don't think that's what President Trump believes. [In] my time around him - never heard it."

Current Chaos in House Started After Matt Gaetz Ousted Kevin McCarthy

While Republicans are blaming Democrats for the current chaos happening inside the House right now, with Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene threatening to oust MAGA House Speaker Mike Johnson, Axios noted that all this started when Matt Gaetz ousted Kevin McCarthy from the speakership.

Republicans are currently brushing off Greene's attempt with frustration or hostility, but should she get enough votes to oust him, Kevin McCarthy suggested that to prevent further chaos, Democrats may step in and save Johnson.
