Donald Trump Trial: Not Many Trump Supporters Showed Up as Ex-POTUS Made Fun of for Dozing Off During Hearing
Despite having one of the most rabid supporters in the US, not many Trump supporters actually showed up during Donald Trump's hush money trial in New York. This comes as many are now making fun of the former president for apparently dozing off as jury selection was happening.
Only a few dozen Trump supporters were seen outside the New York courthouse where the historic trial was happening, many of whom, gathered in a park across the street to show support for the man they want to be the next president, Donald Trump, who stands in trial over fraudulently paying porn star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their affair.
The New York Young Republican Club organized the rally and publicized it as a "rally for President Trump." Despite Trump supporters being known for professing their support for the embattled ex-POTUS as loud as possible, but the rally organized by the New York Young Republican Club was unusually subdued and quiet despite ample promotions and Trump constantly ranting about the trial.
Republicans made excuses as to why the crowd size was low. While they did not give "alternative facts" like former Trump Press Secretary Sean Spicer about the crowd size during Trump's inauguration, Vish Burra, the executive secretary of the club stated that most Republicans were still at "work."
The Republican claimed that the crowd was actually "larger than expected" because "of how quickly we announced it - basically over the weekend." However, given Trump's rhetoric about the case, New York officials were expecting much more and that the protests might even turn to what happened on January 6 in a worst-case scenario.
Several MAGA stars were still present, however, including infamous conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer who wore a black and white T-shirt that read, "DONALD TRUMP DID NOTHING WRONG."
There were also several counter-protesters who were chanting, "No one is above the law. Trump is not above the law."
Did Donald Trump Just Doze Off During His Hush Money Trial
Trump is now the first US president to stand in trial on criminal court after leaving the presidency. During the first day of his trial, which was jury selection, the president who was making fun of top rival Joe Biden as "Sleepy Joe," was himself dozing off in court.
This happened around noon, hours into the jury selection process, with The Guardian reporting, "Trump's eyes appeared closed - beyond their normal level of squinting. Meanwhile, it seemed like Trump's head was edging forward, progressing downward until it would cause him to stir and right himself."
The cycle repeated several times, and members of the media present inside the courtroom managed to catch this and report it despite the airing of the jury selection process not being allowed.
Donald Trump Dozing Off Sparks Ridicule
The sleepy Trump immediately sparked ridicule across social media, with Mother Jones DC bureau chief David Corn quipping, "My theory: Trump's legal team sedated him."
Meanwhile, another X user tweeted, "Looks, he's old. The judge is keeping Sleepy Don from his nap time," while another slammed him for his hypocrisy and projection, tweeting, "Trump on Biden "Sleepy Joe", "Crooked Joe" and the dude is in court on charges falling asleep."
