Mike Tyson Vs. Jake Paul Match Now a Professional Fight, Result Will Officially Go to Their Win-Loss Record
It is official, the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight in Texas will now be sanctioned as a competitive boxing match rather than an exhibition, as both fighters continue to train in their upcoming bout happening this summer and will be streamed live on Netflix.
The decision to make this match a professional competitive fight came after the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation this week approved the terms, which were agreed upon by both parties. It is scheduled to happen on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
When the match was first announced, it raised several eyebrows as 27-year-old influencer and social media star Jake Paul, takes on boxing icon Mike Tyson, who is now 57 years old and has not fought since his exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020.
A Department of Licensing and Regulation spokesperson told the Associated Press in an email and revealed more details about the now-pro fight, stating that "this will be a professional bout with a referee and judges and the results will count as part of the fighters' professional records. So - it's an actual competitive fight."
The Texas governing body also noted that the fight itself is scheduled for eight two-minute rounds, with the rounds being shorter than the usual three-minute rounds. The gloves will also be heavier, as they will be increased to 14 ounces instead of the standard pro weight of 10 ounces. It is noted that punching power is usually reduced with heavier gloves.
The department made this decision after considering several factors, including the fact that Mike Tyson is almost 60 years old. They also took in other factors such as medical tests, win-loss records, and losses by knockout or technical knockout.
Knockouts Will Be Allowed During the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Fight
After carefully considering these factors, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation also noted that despite Mike Tyson's age, they will allow knockouts in this fight. Much like his younger self, his opponent, Jake Paul, has been known for his knockout power though he has been criticized for only beating NBA players, aging MMA fighters, and lower-tier fighters.

Soon after the decision by the regulators, both Mike Tyson and Jake Paul sounded off on their upcoming bout.
"I'm very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul," said the former heavyweight champion of the world. "He's grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a 'kid' can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT."
"The biggest fight of the 21st century, in the biggest NFL stadium in the US, broadcast live on the biggest streaming platform in the world," said Paul. ""My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet, and the most dangerous boxer of all time. Time to put Iron Mike to sleep."
