Nicki Minaj Twitter, Instagram & BET 2014: Iggy Azalea Breaks Silence, 'Pills N Potions' Rapper Addresses Feud Rumors
Nicki Minaj seemed to diss Iggy Azalea, as she criticized artists who do not write their own music, during her acceptance speech for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at this year's BET Awards. Now, the two rappers have spoken out on their recent feud rumors.
On Sunday night, June 29, Minaj was onstage to receive her fifth consecutive trophy and proudly said, "What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is that, when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it."
A few days later, the "Pills N Potions" rapper took Twitter to deny throwing shade at the "Fancy" hitmaker. "The media puts words in my mouth all the time, and this is no different," she began in a series of tweets. "I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us!"
Another post read, "I believe we're smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I've been saying this for 5 YEARS."
The Trinidadian emcee also praised other female artists who write their own music. "I fell in love with Lauryn Hill b/c I knew she was the author behind those amazingly profound and articulated songs on the MisEducation," she wrote. "It's the same reason I have a different level of respect for Missy [Elliott]. I know she's a writer and a producer. Women MUST aspire for more.
"I've congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should b proud," Minaj said. "That will never change my desire to motivate women to write. Our voices have to be heard. I hope I inspire up & coming females to do that."

I wondered how Lauryn tapped into my brain and wrote an album on love, betrayal, passion, pain, triumph, brokenness.... Did she read minds? — PillsNPotions (@NICKIMINAJ) July 2, 2014

On the same day (June 2), Azalea broke silence on the BET controversy via Instagram. Her long post read, "I have to say the general explosion of pettiness online is hard to ignore. If I had won the BET Award that would've been great but it wasn't my year & I don't mind -- so you shouldn't either. Generally speaking I'm unbothered by anything that 'happened' at the BET Awards and just feel worn out by everyone trying to make me have wars with people all the time. I hate to see everyone exhausting themselves on my behalf over things that I'm still not 100% sure even exist & don't matter.
"This is my mind state about everything & the only time I'm ever going to refer to this again so go nuts guys, Enjoy it," she said in the following caption. "Ps. If you squint exxxtra hard you can see tiny elves having illuminati meetings between the lines in my notes app too."
