Fox News fell for what the internet calls a "sh*tpost" hook, line, and sinker, as it, as well as many in the right and other right-wing media outlets, fell for what the poster himself admits was a prank regarding a juror at the Donald Trump porn star hush money trial.

Fox News personalities such as Sean Hannity and Maria Bartiromo immediately called for the guilty verdict against Donald Trump to be overturned after Judge Juan Merchan flagged a comment on the New York Unified Court System's Facebook page that claimed he was a cousin of one of the jurors and that juror told him that they were already planning to convict the former president.

However, as it turned out, the one who posted it is a self-proclaimed "sh*tposter" and admitted that he made the post that caused the right to go into a frenzy. The poster, a Facebook user named Michael Anderson, told people to "take it easy" and admitted he was a "professional "sh*tposter" before posting a definition of what a "sh*tposter" is. Long story short, the post was a prank, and Fox News and other right-wing outlets fell for it.

According to Salon, Anderson was a "regular troll" of the New York court system's social media pages, though Trump's lawyers possibly be using his comment to try and throw out the verdict even though it no longer has any grounds to stand on.

Internet sleuths managed to track Anderson's account down and in his profile, he does admit that he is an internet troll. As for Judge Merchan flagging his comment down, he only did so to inform both parties that the comment may be used by the defense to try and throw out the case. The right-wing echo chamber is now calling for them to do so.

Fox News Host Still Pushed Debunked Theory on Donald Trump Trial Juror Even After Validity Was Questioned

"Judge [Juan] Mechan from the Manhattan so-called hush money trial issuing a letter to all the parties involved, acknowledging that there could be potential juror misconduct on social media," said Bartiromo in her show before showing Anderson's comment. "This after a post was found on the New York State Unified Court System Facebook page where someone writes, my cousin is a juror and says Trump is getting convicted."

According to Raw Story, others in right-wing media did question the validity of the comment, with New York Post writer Miranda Devine admitting that this was likely "some sort of troll" post but Fox News law pundit, Attorney Greg Jarrett, said that the "troll" could legitimately be the cousin of a juror.

Donald Trump's Lawyers Have Not Seized on the Prank Comment So Far

Despite right-wing media in a frenzy over Anderson's comment, so far, Trump's own lawyers have not yet made any moves regarding it despite Judge Merchan himself flagging the comment and bringing it to their attention.

There is still no oral argument over the issue, and it is still unclear whether court officials have done any work to substantiate the post. Politico also noted that Merchan may have disclosed the comment to both sides "out of an abundance of caution."
