For a record 18th time in history, the Boston Celtics have won the vaunted Larry O'Brien trophy, making the Boston Celtics the winningest NBA team in history once again after beating the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Meanwhile, Jaylem Brown was named the Finals MVP for his performance in previous games.

The NBA Finals MVP award has been renamed the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP and it was only fitting that it was won by a Celtic, as Jaylen Brown averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists to win the trophy and his first ring, according to NBA.com.

In his MVP speech in front of the Boston faithful, Brown credited teammate Jayson Tatum, as well as his other teammates, including Kristaps Porzingis, Derrick White, and the big Dominican himself, Al Horford, who has finally won his first title in over a decade in the league. He is the first player from the Dominican Republic to win an NBA championship.

The Celtics won Game 5 with a dominant final score of 106-88, with Tatum leading the way with 31 points and 11 assists, while Finals MVP Jaylen Brown added 21 points. It was an all-around performance for the team as many of the other Celtics contributed big to the franchise's 18th NBA championship.

The Celtics led the NBA in wins coming into the Playoffs with 64 wins. They dominated the playoffs, only losing once to rivals Miami Heat and once to the undermanned Cleveland Cavaliers. They then swept the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals before beating Luka Doncic and former Celtic Kyrie Irving and their Dallas Mavericks.

This is also Boston's first title in 16 years, with the last one being in 2008, where Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen led the Celtics to their 17th NBA championship. With this win, the C's have now passed eternal rival Los Angeles Lakers as the franchise with the most NBA championships.

NBA Finals Game 5 Dominated by Question Whether Kristaps Porzingis Would Play for Boston Celtics

Before the historic game, the Celtics were faced with plenty of questions after the Mavericks handed them their largest loss in the Playoffs so far in Game 4. That was a game without Kristaps Porzingis, as the Latvian big man was out due to an injury.

During Game 5, it was a big question whether the big man would play. However, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said we "can expect to see" Kristaps Porzingis and the Latvian showed up and was hungry all game.

Kyrie Irving Shows Class to Former Boston Celtics Teammates During His NBA Finals Loss

For Celtics fans, Kyrie Irving has been Enemy #1 after he left the team and stomped on the Celtics logo. However, as it became clear that the Mavericks would not be able to catch up to the wide Celtics lead, he went over to the Celtics side and shook the players' and coaches' hands, congratulating them.

Irving was then subbed out and was praised by many for his classy gesture, according to Sports Illustrated.
