During the WWE Money in the Bank premium live event in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, John Cena dropped a bombshell announcing his retirement. He then clarified during the post-event press conference that he plans to retire after his final match, which would be during Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas, Nevada next year.

He was introduced before the Toronto crowd by the city's own WWE legend, Trish Stratus, and everybody was surprised by his sudden appearance as he was not scheduled to be there. Instead, the man who used to be the "Doctor of Thugganomics" thanked the crowd for their years of support before announcing his retirement.

The 16-time WWE champion did not reveal much during his surprise in-ring segment, but he did bring up a banner that said "LAST," hinting at his plans. Cena did say that he would reveal more details about his plans during the post-event press conference, which he did.

During that press conference, John Cena revealed that he will be participating not just in Wrestlemania 41, but also in next year's Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber premium live events.

However, he did not reveal if he would appear in either of those matches nor was it made clear if his retirement match would serve as one of Wrestlemania 41's two main events. It is also unclear who he will be wrestling during the "Show of Shows," as speculations range from him putting over an up-and-coming wrestler or renewing his rivalry with Randy Orton in a fitting final match.

WWE Superstars Vying To Be John Cena's Next Opponent on Social Media

After John Cena announced his retirement, several superstars took to social media to call him out and challenge him to a match as one of his final opponents before he finally retires or to be the one to finally retire at Wrestlemania 41.

"GIVE ME CENA!!!!" tweeted the Nigerian Giant, Omos. Meanwhile, Baron Corbin tagged Cena in his challenge, tweeting, "Not gonna lie... I want some!"

"Big match John can get this work," tweeted Australian big man Big Bronson Reed in his challenge to the retiring WWE legend, while Grayson Waller, who has had his run-ins with the man who cannot be seen, tweeted a photo of himself in the ring with John Cena from last year's Money in the Bank with the caption, "Before you leave......."

Meanwhile, What Culture Wrestling's Simon Miller speculated that it might indeed be Randy Orton who would be Cena's final opponent. The two had a very storied rivalry through the years and he says that Orton would be a fitting final opponent for "Big Match John."

John Cena Avoids Questions Regarding Vince McMahon

During that same press conference after Money in the Bank, there were several questions thrown regarding former WWE chairman Vince McMahon, who is the center of a sex scandal where he is currently being sued by a former WWE employee for sexual abuse. One of these questions was aimed at McMahon's former golden goose, John Cena.

"Surely an uncomfortable question," Cena answered. "And, man, I really would much rather talk about what is ahead of us," adding that he has been honest about his opinion toward the disgraced former WWE executive.

In a previous interview with the Associated Press, Cena stated, "When you love somebody, you take them as imperfectly perfect as they are. We all make mistakes, we all have poor decisions. Lord knows I've made my collection of poor choices. That doesn't mean I'm not going to love somebody. There's no way I can go on record and say I don't love Vince McMahon."
