WWE has made a very big international signing, as the company has now welcomed Stephanie Vaquer, a superstar from Chile who made a name for herself in Mexico's CMLL and Japan's NJPW. However, this new WWE signing also did not make AEW very happy as it was also trying to land the Chilean.

Before she went with WWE, her status with CMLL had been in serious question as the two top promotions in the world, AEW and WWE, had been reportedly trying to sign her. However, a report from the Wrestling Observer noted that the Mexico-based promotion, as well as its partner, NJPW, knew that she was negotiating with both AEW and WWE.

CMLL had asked her to work the upcoming NJPW/CMLL Fantasticamania show in San Jose, California, according to Wrestling Inc., as she had already been advertised to appear in the show prior to her WWE signing. The company reportedly asked her to lose her CMLL Women's title on her way out.

However, Stephanie Vaquer was unable to commit to the original Fantasticamania show, so she vacated her title. This led to the event featuring a Three-Way match for the vacant CMLL Women's title. Her not competing in the event also signaled that she went to the WWE, as AEW would have allowed her to compete.

AEW had been expressing its interest in Vaquer after her match with Mercedes Mone, previously known as Sasha Banks in WWE, during the AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door event, where she lost her NJPW title. The match was considered her star-making performance.

Stephanie Vaquer's WWE Signing Angered AEW, NJPW, CMLL

Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that Vaquer's decision to sign with the Connecticut-based promotion made AEW angry as it offered Vaquer a massive deal only for her to reject it. However, Meltzer did note that the Chilean's signing with WWE was no surprise at all.

According to Pinkvilla, Meltzer noted that while she was growing up in Chile, she always watched WWE and has always wanted to work for the promotion, saying, "AEW wasn't happy because they did want her, and they made an offer to her, but she went with WWE, and it's not a surprise because she grew up in Chile, and when she grew up wanting to be a wrestler there was no such thing as AEW."

Who Is Chile-Born Wrestler Stephanie Vaquer?

Born in San Fernando, Chile, Stephanie Vaquer made her wrestling debut in 2009 at the age of 16 under the name Dark Angel. She said in an interview that she realized she wanted to be a wrestler when she was 13 and began raising money to move to Mexico so she could become a wrestler herself.

Once in Mexico, Vaquer trained under the likes of Paul Slandering, Ricky Marvin, Gran Apache, Villano IV, and Ultimo Guerrero. As there is little pro wrestling in Chile, Vaquer had to move to Mexico, and this is where she signed with CMLL before cutting her international chops over at NJPW. The rest is history.
