President Joe Biden urged Americans to reject political violence following former President Donald Trump assassination attempt.

In a national address, Biden emphasized that while political passions can run high, violence must not be the answer, according to AP News.

In a Sunday afternoon address, Joe Biden condemned the attack on Trump as "contrary to everything we stand for as a nation" and announced an independent security review to understand how such an incident could occur.

Speaking from the White House after a briefing in the Situation Room, he stressed the importance of uniting as one nation.

He called for a thorough and swift investigation, urging the public not to jump to conclusions about the shooter's motives.

The President also directed the US Secret Service to review all security measures for the Republican National Convention, which was set to begin in Milwaukee.

Secret Service coordinator Audrey Gibson-Cicchino confirmed that no changes were necessary to the agency's Trump security plan for the event, stating that officials were fully prepared.

Addressing the Nation

Joe Biden described the attack as un-American and underscored the importance of national unity.

He planned to deliver an extended address from the Oval Office later that evening, focusing on the need to end political violence in the country, Reuters reports.

Meanwhile, Biden and First Lady Jill Biden expressed their condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief who was killed during the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The President also mentioned a brief but positive conversation with Trump, expressing gratitude for the former President's recovery.

Trump, who called for national unity following the attack, posted "UNITE AMERICA!" on social media.

The attack came at a critical time in the presidential campaign, with Biden's team pausing political messaging and reevaluating their approach.

Following the incident, Biden's campaign halted all outbound communications and worked to pull down television ads.

The President postponed a planned trip to Texas, where he was to speak on the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, and an NBC News interview with Lester Holt was rescheduled to occur at the White House.

Despite these changes, Biden's campaign planned to continue drawing contrasts with Trump throughout the GOP convention.

Biden's team hoped that his Oval Office address would reinforce his message of unity and demonstrate leadership.

Investigation and Trump Security Review

President Joe Biden ordered an independent review of national security at the rally to ensure transparency following Trump assassination attempt.

He urged the public to allow the FBI and partner agencies to investigate without premature assumptions about the shooter's motives.

Republican lawmakers plan to investigate the Secret Service's role, with some blaming agency lapses on Biden.

Biden's campaign adjusted its strategy in response, emphasizing unity while addressing political differences.

The President canceled his trip to Austin, Texas, and Vice President Kamala Harris postponed her visit to Florida, ABC 7 noted.

Trump announced plans to travel to Milwaukee for the Republican convention, where he was expected to address delegates.

The convention's structure remained unchanged, including the announcement of Trump's running mate.

Trump, who sustained a minor injury, raised his fist toward the crowd as Secret Service agents escorted him from the stage.

The shooter in the Trump assassination attempt, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania resident, was killed in the incident.

Another bystander was also fatally shot, and two others were critically injured.

Joe Biden's call for unity and rejection of political violence marks a critical moment in a charged election season.
