Despite his numerous controversies, Natanael Cano, the pioneer of corridos tumbados, continues to succeed in his music career. His recent nomination at the 2024 Latin Grammys for Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album for his latest album, 'Nata Montana,' further goes to show his ongoing influence.

'Nata Montana,' Cano's eleventh studio album, was released in 2023 to widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, making it a shoe-in for a nomination at Latin Grammys and cementing his place as a powerful figure in the Mexican music scene.

The competition in his category is tough, with other notable artists like Peso Pluma ('Génesis'), Michelle Maciel ('Trastornado'), DannyLux ('Evoluxion'), Grupo Frontera ('Jugando A Que No Pasa Nada'), and Carín León ('Boca Chueca, Vol. 1') also nominated. However, Cano's attendance currently in question due to legal issues with authorities and immigration.

Why Might Natanael Cano Miss the Latin Grammys?

The Mexican artist's participation in the upcoming Latin Grammys ceremony is uncertain due to recent issues with immigration authorities. Last August, it was revealed that Cano under the pseudonym, "Natanael Rubén 'N'" faced charges of bribery after allegedly attempting to pay off police officers in Hermosillo, as reported by the Sonora State Attorney General's Office on social media. As a result, he was prohibited from leaving Mexico without judicial authorization and is required to periodically appear in court.

What Did Natanael Cano Do?

According to the Attorney General's report, Cano was driving a red Dodge Charger at high speeds without plates when he was stopped. He allegedly attempted to bribe the officers to avoid a fine or arrest and upon realizing that they wouldn't accept it, took off and engaged the officers in a high-speed chase. While he was not arrested, the charges still stand. The report details: "The accused was driving a recent-model, unplated Dodge Charger at high speed along José María Morelos Boulevard in Hermosillo. Upon being stopped by Municipal Police officers, he reportedly offered money to prevent lawful actions. A high-speed chase ensued, ending when Cano finally stopped without any official action being taken against him."

The 25th Latin Grammy Awards will take place on November 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, airing live on Univision at 8 p.m. ET. and hopefully Cano will have his legal issues resolved by then.
