'Glee': Chris Colfer Denies Tweeting About Leaving for Next Season
This week, a tweet that seemed to come from 24-year-old actor, Chris Colfer, left "Glee" fans with frowns all across their faces.
On Thursday, the "Glee" actor who plays Kurt Hummel on the hit Fox show seemingly tweeted, "Due to personal issues, I have been let go from the cast of GLEE. Explanations will come shortly ..."
Naturally, "Glee" fans were confused, outraged and demanded answers for Colfer's departure.
In fact, The Sydney Morning Herald reported that immediately after the tweet was posted, the original tweet was "retweeted" more than 5400 times before it was taken down.
But before fans could rally and stir up more controversy, Colfer's representative team quickly denied rumors and set the record straight.
"It appears his Twitter was hacked," Colfer's rep told PEOPLE. "He's on a flight and he will be returning next season. Fans, don't worry."
Even the Fox network did some damage control and further denied the rumors in an official statement, "We've been alerted that Chris Colfer's Twitter account has been hacked. Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season."
So what does Chris Colfer himself have to say about the hacking incident?
Well, for the most part the actor let his reps and Fox do the talking for him, but he later teased that at least the latest rumor was about his acting role instead of another Colfer hoax that claimed that he had been killed by a fruit truck.
"Apparently I missed quite the INTERESTING day while aboard my flight. I'm just glad I wasn't 'killed by a fruit truck' again," Chris Colfer tweeted on Thursday.
Since originating the role of Kurt Hummel on "Glee," Chris Colfer has earned himself a Golden Globe award for best supporting actor in a series and two Emmy award nominations.
