As "The Walking Dead" gets closer to its Season 5 premiere, showrunner Scott M. Gimple has revealed a little bit more about what to expect from the developing AMC show.

In an interview with Collider last week, Gimple said that the show will not follow the same unique structure of Season 4.

"[It is] definitely not mirroring [Season 4's structure] completely," he said. "That's the ... challenge of the show, it's like every eight episodes is a brand new show."

Fans of Season 4 have nothing to fear, however, as Gimple added that Season 5 will have at least some things in common with its predecessor.

"I will say there's some slightly familiar structural turns, but for the most part, yeah, it's gonna be brand new -- brand new versions of the comic story," he said.

Speaking of the comic book story, which created by one of the AMC show's executive producers and writers Robert Kirkman, Gimple addressed the differences between the TV adaptation and the original tale.

"Back in the day when I started Season 2, I was all, 'We must hem to the comic,' and Kirkman was like, 'Well, let's have some fun. I've done this all before,'" Gimple said. "I certainly won't abandon iconic things from the comic. I definitely want to stick to the comic as much as possible, but that's also impossible with Daryl Dixon and characters that are alive but dead in the comic. There's a butterfly effect, but that's actually an incredibly fun part. ... I would say that even the inventions we have on the show are inspired by the comic."

Meanwhile, the show's actors are preparing for the bloody season, which features a "disturbing" first episode, according to Lauren Cohan, that is also "ambitious," according to Andrew Lincoln. Lincoln also teased that Season 5 deals much with hierarchy.
