'Como Dice el Dicho' and Netflix Mexican Star Renata del Castillo Dead at 42
The Mexican actress had been battling cervical cancer for almost three years.

Renata del Castillo, the Mexican actress known for her roles in 'Control Z' and 'Como dice el dicho' has passed away at the age of 42. Her death was announced in a heartbreaking post by her friend and fellow actress Anahí Fraser on social media. Her death follows a years-long battle with cervical cancer that had metastasized to her lungs, liver, and spine.
Born in San Luis Potosí, del Castillo began her acting career in 2001 with the telenovela 'Cuando seas mía.' Over the years, she became a familiar face on Mexican television, appearing in dramas like 'Rutas de la vida,' 'Un día cualquiera,' and, of course, Netflix's 'Control Z.'
In 2022, del Castillo was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Despite undergoing multiple treatments, including chemotherapy and precision medicine, the disease progressed aggressively. By July 2024, she had discontinued chemotherapy due to severe side effects and opted for less invasive treatments. In her final months, she openly shared her health struggles on social media, seeking financial assistance to cover the mounting medical expenses.
In Fraser's post, she expressed her sorrow and pledged to support del Castillo's surviving teenage son, Mateo, writing, "My beautiful friend, my sister in life with so many years together...We will do what we can so that [Mateo] has what he needs."

Del Castillo's death was also announced on her own social media, with an Instagram story from Mateo which reads, "Good morning, during the late hours of April 28, Renata Alejandra unfortunately passed... I want to share this to let everyone know that Ren was as strong as she could be until the end of her days... I want to thank everyone. I don't have the words or ideas to express how much I appreciate my mother and your appreciation for her. Whenever we would go out she would always talk about your stories.. She is in a better place and this account will remain active so people can see her memories and seriously, thank you to everyone, may God bless you and fill you with peace."
