Sirius XM: Radio Fires ‘Opie and Anthony’ Host Over Tweets
"Opie and Anthony" host Anthony Cumia was fired by Sirius XM over his "racially charged" and "hate-filled" tweets, FOX News reported.
The tweets that reportedly got Cumia fired were about an incident between him and an African-American woman.
Guardian Liberty Voice reported that Cumia tweeted about things getting heated between him and the woman after she thought he had taken a picture of her in Times Square.
Cumia said that despite his insisting he was taking photos of the scenery and not the woman, the woman allegedly began assaulting him and making threats.
Following the incident, Cumia tweeted his rage and reportedly began posting a series of inflammatory tweets insulting the woman and calling her such things as "a savage."
Cumia also called the woman a "pig face worthless" and later wrote, "This was an animal. I shoulda smashed it's face."
XM got hold of Cumia's angry and racially charged tweets and fired him.
Though Sirius XM deemed Cumia's twitter messages inappropriate, the radio host felt otherwise and tweeted his anger yet again -- this time toward Sirius XM.
According to Guardian Liberty Voice, Cumia tweeted about his confusion with getting fired over an incident that did not occur at and was not related to work.
Cumia also wrote that despite Sirius XM leaving him without a job, he plans to quickly bounce back, as he has a large fan base of people who will remain loyal and keep listening once he finds a new radio gig.
And it seems Cumia is right about his large fan base: Days after news got out that Cumia had been fired, "Opie and Anthony" fans began canceling their Sirius XM subscriptions.
Billboard reported that fans even launched a Twitter campaign using the hashtag #CancelSiriusXM to encourage other Sirius subscribers to cancel their SiriusXM subscriptions.
Some fans even went as far as replacing their Twitter avatars with an image of Cuban Revolution figure Che Guevara with Cumia's face superimposed on it.
Will this be enough for Cumia to get his job back? Was Sirius XM correct in its decision to fire the radio host? Share your comments below.
