'El Chavo Del Ocho' on YouTube: Show Becomes Violent & Sexy, Actor Disapproves [Watch]
Remember when there was violence and gore in "El Chavo del Ocho?"
Of course not, but there is now. Ecuadorian-based YouTube channel EnchufeTV has given the beloved children's show a makeover.
Unlike the show, there is a mix of Spanish and English throughout. And most unlike the show, there are guns and violence between the main characters and some sexual tension as well. El Chavo even has blood running down his face.
The video, which was released on July 6, has garnered more than 6 million views, proving that the show still resonates with Latinos. The show was created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños, who is mostly known as Chespirito.
The video description reads, "We did this with love :)... and if you complain, we'll respond: Se nos chispoteó."
The last line is one of Roberto Gómez Bolaños' famous lines, which is basically used to describe something blowing up in your face.
On top of being the video being very well viewed, it is also much talked about, with at least 12,000 comments. Some of which seem to think that Televisa will sue the group for this video.
Edgar Vivar, who played Zenón Barriga, was neutral about the spoof.
"I have not seen it, but it becomes part of the popular unconscious and once it airs, it is exploited and interpreted in different ways and it lends itself to these things," he said, according to Diario Basta. "It takes me by surprise. I'm withholding judgement because I don't know what it is. I have good friends in Ecuador."
It seems he may have seen it later, as another publication quoted him as being disappointment in the video.
"What a pity. I regret that the program has been distorted, and above all, I have very good friends in Ecuador," he said, notes El Universo. "I own my image as an actor, but all the characters are owned by Roberto Gómez Bolaños."
It's not the first time a spoof of the show has upset one of the actors. In 2004, Vivos released a video, which upset Carlos Villagran, who played Kiko.
