'Batman V Superman' Movie Release News: Doomsday Rumored to Be Antagonist in 'Dawn of Justice'
The rumor mill keeps on spinning in the latest word on the highly-anticipated film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
Science fiction entertainment site Bleeding Cool reported Thursday that a reliable source close to the production of the film claimed to have seen some designs for the character Doomsday.
Most comic book fanboys are familiar with the raging mega-monster, but for those novices, Doomsday is the genetically engineered beast who killed Superman in the 1992 storyline "The Death of Superman." The character was created by Dan Jurgens and was recently brought back in DC Comics' New 52 Superman titles.
According to Coming Soon, despite Doomsday's character being teased in the special features section of the Man of Steel Blu-ray, the news is still a rumor at this point and should be treated as such.
If the Doomsday rumor proves true, however, not only does Superman have his hands full, but so do director Zack Snyder and company, as a considerable list of DC Comics favorites are already officially attached to the film.
Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot are set to play Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman respectively, who are known as the Holy Trinity of superheroes. Ray Fisher will portray Cyborg while Jason Momoa is rumored to play Aquaman, rounding out the majority of the famed Justice League.
Jesse Eisenberg is taking on the role of billionaire, scientist, megalomanic Lex Luthor with Jeremy Irons plays Bruce Wayne's most trusted confidante, Alfred Pennyworth.
And reprising their "Man of Steel" roles are Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Amy Adams, as Clark Kent's love interest Lois Lane.
"Batman v Superman," which is due out May 6, 2016, is expected to launch a slew of DC Comics films between 2016 and 2019, including a feature length Justice League movie.
