Casting news about the returning televisions series "True Detective" has become more effectively funneled down from rumors into more feasible reports.

Speculation on the cast of Season 2 has been widespread after creators confirmed that the two lead actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson would not be coming back for the new season. The show's creator Nic Pizzolatto has also been very secretive about the possible actors whom he would consider to appear on HBO's American television crime drama series.

Speculations that Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain and other big names in the industry would be taking over the new lead roles have been debunked as well.

Meanwhile, possibilities on the future castings have become clearer after the script for the second season has been submitted and consequently leaked.

According to Deadline, HBO has been in deep negotiations with Colin Farrell to play one of the expected three main character roles in Season 2. After many speculations surrounded the casting possibilities, Farrell is actually the first to go on board with the highly acclaimed show.

During a Television Critics Association summer press tour panel, HBO president Michael Lombardo gave his own input on the show by saying that the network would be casting well-known names to fill in the three lead roles -- the number of lead characters that Pizzolatto himself confirmed. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he also said that casting information could be announced in the coming weeks, promising potentially exciting names.

"True Detective" received very high ratings in its first season, earning multiple Emmy nominations including best drama and best actors for both its leading men. Farrell is expected to provide the same star quality that McConaughey and Harrelson did. Many believe that he is capable of doing so as Farrell is a highly successful actor himself.

The premiere date of Season 2 remains just as mysterious, with no confirmations or reports on when fans can expect to watch the series again.
