Galaxy Alpha vs. iPhone: Samsung Planning to Release iPhone Rival in August?
Could it be the iPhone killer? Samsung hopes its next smartphone convinces iPhone fans to switch to their brand.
That's because Samsung is reportedly creating yet another smartphone, and it's not the Galaxy Note 4. This one is said to be called the Galaxy Alpha, with an August release date.
The Galaxy Alpha is in response to the next iPhone, scheduled for a September release. According to Korean publications ETNews and the Korea Herald, the smartphone will be metal. For now, the Galaxy Alpha name is probably an internal name for the device, and it's subject to change.
Samsung has been criticized in the past for continuing to go with plastic handsets and it appears they are finally headed toward a metal smartphone. Samsung has said that plastic handsets are "warmer and frendlier" to users. But, now it looks like they'll finally switch over to metal.
The Galaxy F is another phone scheduled to come out soon for Samsung. Is the Galaxy Alpha the same thing or different? We do know the Galaxy F is going to have some of the best hardware seen in a phone yet and a better design.
With the Galaxy Alpha, The Herald said the phone will be made of metal, will have a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display, an Exynos Octa chip and will measure in at a super-thin 6mm.
"The new smartphone, known as the 'card-phone' for its slenderness, will soon be out on the Korean market and some foreign markets as well," unnamed industry sources said.
The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to come out in September. This will be an ultra-large "phablet" style phone with a 5.5-inch screen. Apple is also expected to release a phablet style iPhone later this year. It will be the first time that Apple and Samsung compete with this sized smartphone.
