'Man of Steel' 2 Villain Rumors: Bryan Cranston Reportedly Cast As Lex Luthor
What will happen at the end of 'Breaking Bad'? Walter White leaves his meth empire business behind and becomes Superman's archenemy, that's what.
According to Cosmic Book News, 'Breaking Bad' star Bryan Cranston has been cast as supervillian Lex Luthor in the upcoming 'Man of Steel' sequel. The Warner Bros. deal could have Cranston portraying Lex Luthor in at least six or as many as 10 films.
Although no other details about his casting have been given, Cosmic Book News reported that Warner Bros. wants to wait until the end of 'Breaking Bad' on Sept. 29 to make an official announcement.
"Cranston truly is a dream casting for Luthor," a source told Cosmic Book News.
According to the comic book news website, DC comics also has interest having Matt Damon portray Aquaman or Martian Manhunter for any upcoming Justice League superhero movies.
The casting news comes shortly after Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the upcoming sequel, in a possible 13-appearance deal. His casting was met with much controversy, as many either criticized or joked at the prospect of the actor-director's future protrayal of the superhero.
The Telegraph reported that more than 70 percent of tweets on Twitter were opposed to the idea of Affleck as the new Batman.
"The drunken hobo that lives under the overpass would be a #betterBatmanthanBenAffleck," one Twitter user posted. The last time Affleck portrayed a superhero was in 2003's 'Daredevil,' which was panned by critics.
However, not everyone seems to be too upset with the controversial casting choice.
'The Dark Knight Rises' star Joseph Gordon-Levitt told E! News at the 2013 VMAs that Affleck would make a great Batman. Comedian Patton Oswalt took to Facebook to defend Affleck's casting as well.
"Think for a second and admit that Ben Affleck is closer to THAT top-shelf iteration of The Dark Knight than pretty much anyone else in Hollywood right now," Oswalt wrote.
Affleck and Cranston will join 'Man of Steel' stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne in the upcoming sequel, which is set to be released Jul. 17, 2015.
