Bill Cosby could be returning to NBC with a comedy show set to debut next summer, The New York Daily News reported via The Associated Press.

The untitled series is in the writing stage. Cosby's NBC reunion for the new series was first announced in January, according to the NY Daily News, it is described as a "classic, extended-family sitcom."

Cosby's first show on NBC was his classic "The Bill Cosby Show," which focused on the life of a prosperous African-American family. Cosby starred as the patriarch in the show, which ran for eight seasons.

Cosby will also star as the patriarch in the new show, and "Glee" writer Mike O'Malley will write for it and also may star in it, according to Newsday.

Though the rest of the cast and the series' overall plot has yet to be announced, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt revealed that Cosby's new comedy will be filmed on a multi-camera set in front of a studio audience.

Most of NBC's shows, such as "30 Rock" and "The Office," are filmed using a newer single camera format. Greenblatt hopes to bring the more traditional multi-camera format back to NBC.

"There's been a generation of writers and producers who have gone away from multi-cam, and we are trying to revitalize [that form]," Greenblatt said. "There was such cachet with '30 Rock' and 'The Office,' which reinforced single-camera as the 'better' form, and I hope we can balance the scales a little."

Michael J. Fox is another veteran NBC actor who returned to the network to star in "The Michael J. Fox Show."

Despite his success in his first NBC show, "Family Ties," his "The Michael J. Fox Show" flopped.

"We struggled and worked really hard to figure out how to bring an audience to that show," Greenblatt admitted. "We just found it very difficult to grow that show over all those months."
