Hot New Music 2014: R. Kelly to Release EDM/House Music Album [Video]
R&B singer-songwriter R. Kelly continues to try out different genres of music, as he recently made a quite unexpected announcement: The "Bump 'n' Grind" hitmaker is currently recording an EDM/House album.
While onstage to perform at the 24th annual Chosen Few DJs picnic in Chicago on July 5, Kelly talked to the audience about his latest project that he is working on. He revealed that the new album would be EDM/House-influenced.
"I want y'all to know a secret," the Chicago-born singer said in a clip filmed by fan. "I'm working on a House album right now, and I want y'all to know it's coming.
"Y'all know I love music, and I feel like I can do anything when it comes to music because I am music, just like y'all," he said.
In fact, this is not the first time that R. Kelly has branched out to genres other than R&B. For instance, he helped spotlight Chicago's famous and unique "steppin'" culture with the hit single "Step in the Name of Love" off his 2003 album "Chocolate Factory."
In 2004, the "Feelin on Yo Booty" crooner also released the "Happy People/U Saved Me" double record, which heavily featured a "steppin'" dance theme. Moreover, he collaborated with Lady Gaga on the pop single "Do What U Want" off her 2013 studio album "Artpop."
The new offering is an addition to R. Kelly's previously mentioned releases of "White Panties," a follow-up to sexually exaggerated 2013 album "Black Panties," and "12 Nights of Christmas" -- neither of which have set release dates nor solid details.
