Florida Mother at Target: Woman Arrested for Leaving 19-Month-Old Daugther in Car
A Florida woman was arrested after she allegedly left her 19-month-old daughter in a car, while she shopped at Target.
Witnesses spotted the toddler all alone in the vehicle and called the Pinellas Park Police Department, which arrested the mother, who was identified as Vita Abramenkova of Clearwater. According to Sgt. Adam Geissenberger, the woman had left her child in a locked, running vehicle for 40 minutes Monday afternoon, The Associated Press reported.
Geissenberger said the air conditioning in the car was left on low, but the temperature in the parking lot was 92 degrees. He added that the baby was found crying inside the vehicle.
The 35-year-old mother told police that she left her daughter in the car because she was asleep, and she didn't want to wake her up, Geissenberger said.
Abramenkova, who was charged with child neglect, was released on $2,000 bond. Meanwhile, the child was left in the custody of her father, Bay News 9 reported.
Earlier this month, a Georgia man was arrested for allegedly killing his toddler son by leaving the boy inside of a hot SUV.
The father was identified as Justin Ross Harris and was charged with murder for killing his 22-month-old son Cooper intentionally, The Dispatch reported.
The 33-year-old father told police that he was supposed to drive his son to day care on June 18, but instead he drove to work without realizing that the child was sitting in a car seat in the back.
Officials said that Harris exchanged nude photos with several women, including one teen girl, on the day that his son died, while he was at work. Detectives also said that he showed no emotion after the boy died.
During his hearing, Harris was denied his request for bond, which means that Harris was forced to remain in jail.
