Lakers News & ESPYs 2014: NBA Star Nick Young Talks Feud between Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj [Watch]
Lakers star Nick Young opened up about the recent feud between girlfriend Iggy Azalea and rival female rapper Nicki Minaj at 2014 ESPYS, held on Wednesday night, July 16, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
In her acceptance speech for Best Female Hip Hop Artist at this year's BET Awards, Minaj seemingly threw shade at the Aussie rapper, who apparently does not write most of her music. "What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is, that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it."
Although the Trinidadian emcee took Twitter to deny the beef speculations and the "Fancy" hitmaker seemed to be unbothered by Minaj's previous comment, the NBA player hinted last night that the feud is still going on -- saying that people are simply jealous of his girlfriend's success.
"Iggy is doing big things and that is what is scaring people," Young said to New York Daily News. "She is going to brush it off. She won't let it get to her. She is number one -- what can you do? She's at the top right now, so of course they are going to come at you."
"I had to deal with the aftermath of all that, when she came home and was going through her phones, hearing everybody talking trash about her," he continued, talking about the YMCMB rapper's alleged diss. "I had to be there for her."
Nick Young, who has been dating Azalea for almost a year now, said that the couple spend time together hanging out to relieve the "New Classic" star's stress: "We always hang out and try to get her mind off what is going on out there on the news. We go roller-skating, to theme parks and Six Flags and try to have a good time and do down-to-earth stuff. We have sweats on, hoodies on at Six Flags, just us two, and you will never know [who we are]."
Meanwhile, Iggy Azalea kicked off the ceremony, as she took the stage to perform her hit single "Fancy," rocking a sporty ensemble in an aqua and black crop top and matching leggings.
