Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are returning on the big screen to co-star in a new intimate film titled "By the Sea."

Hollywood's hottest couple hasn't appeared together on screen since 2005 box office hit romantic comedy action movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," where they met and fell in love. Universal Pictures announced on Friday, July 18, that the parents of six are now set to play in the upcoming "intimate, character-driven drama," written and directed by Jolie herself and co-produced by both of them.

This is actually the 39-year-old beauty's third time taking the role of director. Jolie made her directorial debut with "In the Land of Blood and Honey," a love story set against the background of the Bosnian War, which earned a Golden Globe nomination in 2012. She is also currently in post-production on Universal's "Unbroken," an epic drama based on the true story of Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini, to be released on this Christmas.

"I am very happy to continue my relationship with [Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley] and the entire Universal team as I finish 'Unbroken' and begin work on 'By the Sea,'" Jolie said in a statement. "They have created a very special place for storytellers, and I look forward to the continued passion and support they have provided to me as a filmmaker."

Langley is apparently excited to work with the two A-listers, as well.

"Angelina continues to showcase her extraordinary storytelling abilities in front of and behind the camera, and we are thrilled to extend our relationship with her on 'By the Sea,'" she said. "Angelina and Brad represent two of Hollywood's brightest talents, and we are excited to be a part of their collaboration on this powerful piece."

In addition, Jolie recently teamed up with another family member in Disney's "Maleficent": her 6-year-old daughter Vivienne, who played young Princess Aurora.
