This NBA offseason has been of the busiest in recent memory, and one of the notable names that will be playing for a different team next season is point guard Jeremy Lin.

Lin began his career with the Golden State Warriors after not being drafted in 2010. His stint was brief as he never started a single game and only made an appearance in 29 total games. After playing briefly overseas, Lin found himself situated in the Big Apple playing for the New York Knicks. It was with the Knicks that Lin had his best games and the term "Linsanity" was used after every great performance. With the Houston Rockets, Lin had his moments, but was used sparingly.

So, now Lin finds himself with the Los Angeles Lakers, who are in desperate need of help.

The Lakers finished 27-55 last season, the most losses the franchise has ever suffered in a single season. A dose of Linsanity might just be what the doctor ordered.

The Lakers are in desperate need a of a point guard. Their top two highest assists players from last season are no longer on the roster. Kendall Marshall averaged 8.8 assists per game, and Steve Blake averaged 7.6 assists per game. Steve Nash is 40 years old and hardly resembles the All-Star point guard he used to be with the Phoenix Suns. Bryant has good passing capabilities, but the Lakers need him to score.

Insert Jeremy Lin.

If the Lakers are going to be successful next season, they need Lin to play a lot of minutes. Lin isn't just a talented ball distributor, but he can score as well. The Lakers got to see Lin at his best in 2012, when he scored 38 points against them and outscore Bryant by three. That's the Lin the Lakers need. The Lakers have to be committed to starting Lin every game. Bryant, who is entering his 19th season, must be willing to share the basketball for team success.

The Lakers are still without a head coach, so nobody knows what type of system will be implemented.

Lin only has one year remaining on his contract. Usually it's the final year of the contract when we see players perform their best because other teams will offer more in free agency having seen a great previous year. Lin could learn from veteran guard Steve Nash, who has played in the NBA for nearly 20 seasons. With Pau Gasol now in Chicago, defense may be an afterthought. The 2014-15 Lakers' only hope may just be to rely solely on offense and completely outscore their opponents. Nobody is saying this team will be the Showtime Lakers of the '80s, but Lin is going to have to play the Magic Johnson role offensively.

Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James were the big names of this free agency, but neither wanted to play in Los Angeles. Trading for Lin was the best the Lakers could do. Both the Lakers and Lin have a good opportunity to turn things around in Los Angeles.
