An 11-year-old girl was among four people who were fatally shot because of senseless gun violence in Chicago over the weekend, while 40 others from around the city were wounded.

The girl, Shamiya Adams, died after being shot in the head Friday night by a stray bullet, while she was at her best friend's sleepover in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, according to police, reported ABC 7 Chicago.

Relatives said Shamiya was making s'mores with her young friends when the bullet shot through a bedroom window, reported the Chicago Tribune. She died Saturday morning.

"They were just running around through the house, dancing. That's all they do is dance all the time. And dancing, dancing, dancing," Rosemarie Jones told WLS.

At least 40 other people on the South and West Sides of Chicago were also injured from gun violence, Reuters reported.

"The familiarity of laughter has been replaced by the familiarity of gunfire," Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a Saturday morning press briefing.

24-year-old Richard Velasquez died after a man walked into a bar Sunday morning in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood and opened fire around 2:35 a.m., said police.

Another 30-something-year-old man was shot in the side and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition, police said.

One man was killed Saturday night in the West Side Austin neighborhood when five people were shot in two incidents that police believer are connected, police said.

A 53-year-old cab driver was shot in the abdomen and thigh while picking up two passengers in the 900 block of North Mayfield Avenue around 6 p.m. Although the driver was reported to be in stable condition, one passenger, 21-year-old man Jaquan Hardy, was shot in the head and died at the West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.

A 43-year-old woman were also shot while getting into the cab. She was taken to also West Suburban and said to be in "stable" condition.
