Amazon Fire Phone: Check Out the New TV Ad, Features, and Release Date
Amazon's first entry to the smartphone market is coming in just four days, but their brand new TV ad tells prospective buyers very little about the actual phone.
In a 30-second TV ad, Amazon boasts that their new Amazon Fire smartphone comes with Amazon Prime free. It shows two young kids enjoying games, videos and TV shows in a coffee shop. The young boy in the ad says: "I've been on this earth nine years and I've never seen anything like it."
So, the phone comes out on Friday, but unless you're a savvy Internet researcher or you know how someone who is in the tech industry, you probably don't know much about the phone's actual features and capabilities.
We do know that the Fire will be an AT&T exclusive though.
Specs
The Fire phone will feature a 4.7 inch screen. It will include a 2.2 GHz processor.
For storage, users can choose between 32 gigabytes (GB) or 64 GB. There won't be a 16 GB model. Only 2 GB of RAM will be included in both models, but that's still a ton for a smartphone.
Camera
A 13 megapixel (MP) camera will be featured on the Fire for the back camera and a 2.1 MP camera for the front-facing camera. There's a special dedicated camera-only button on the device. Press it once to turn the camera on, twice to take a picture.
Sound
The Fire phone will feature Dolby Digital Plus. That's pretty cool for a smartphone to have good audio.
3D Features
The Fire phone will have a 3D-like experience through Dynamic Prospective. You move your head and eyes, the images on the screen will move. If you're shopping for clothes, you'll be able to tilt your phone screen and see the garment in 360 degrees, almost like you're holding the image up with a hanger.
FireFly
This is probably going to be one of the coolest features of the new Fire phone. Basically, you see something you like or want to know about, just use FireFly to find out more about it. There's over 245,000 movies and TV episodes that it can recognize, 35 million songs, and over 100 million other items in total. Just press the FireFly dedicated button and you'll be able to go from there. This gives Amazon a huge advantage, it'll make users who love to window shop and see stuff they like more tempted to press the button and buy the item.
Price
The entry-level Fire phone will cost $199.99, but through AT&T's Next program, one can pay either $32.50 for 20 months on the Next 12 plan or $27.50 for 24 months on the Next 18 plan.
The higher-end Fire phone will cost $299, $37.50 a month on the Next 12 plan, or $31.25 a month for the Next 18 plan.
Without a contract, it will cost $649 for the 32 GB model and $749 for the 64 GB model.
With the purchase of an Amazon Fire phone, users will enjoy one year of free Amazon Prime benefits.
