'Parks and Recreation' Star Aziz Ansari Stand-Up Special Coming To Netflix
There's good news for Netflix suscribers who are fans of Aziz Ansari. The "Parks and Recreation" star and stand-up comedian's latest stand-up special "Buried Alive" will debut exclusively on the online streaming service.
Ansari's first comedy special premiered on Comedy Central in 2010 and the second debuted as a $5 online download in 2012. The 30-year-old comedian's specials "Aziz Ansari: Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening" and "Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious" are currently available to stream on Netflix. "Buried Alive" will premiere Nov. 1.
According to The New York Times, the special (based on Ansari's comedy tour of the same name) will be the biggest stand-up program distributed by Netflix to date, similar to the way "House of Cards" was its first high-profile original series.
When discussing Netlix, Ansari told The New York Times that it "seems like it's the closest delivery service of media we have that actually matches up to our preferences and expectations."
A Netflix spokeswoman told The New York Times that Ansari's upcoming show is different from other stand-up specials the service has debuted, because it will be promoted significantly and billed as a Netflix original.
Netflix also plans to debut future comedy specials by Kathleen Madigan and Marc Maron, The New York Times writes. Currently, the streaming video service has many specials by comedians including Rob Delaney and Louis C.K.
"Buried Alive" isn't the only piece of entertainment Ansari has in store for fans. Entertainment Weekly recently reported that he signed a $3.5 million book deal. His book will supposedly investigate the contemporary tech-obsessed dating scene.
"You know when you text someone you're romantically interested in and you don't hear anything back and then you see them post a photo of a pizza on Instagram? That's exactly what I want this book to deal with," Ansari stated in a press release. "These are strange conundrums that no generation has ever faced before and it's a fascinating jumping off point for what I hope will be a very interesting book about modern courtship."
The untitled book has a tentative release date sometime in September 2015. Season 6 of "Parks and Recreation" premieres Sept. 26 with an hour-long episode.
