The Champions League qualifiers are currently underway with a number of teams looking to find their way throughout the playoffs and into the group stage. While some of these sides could surprise, the likelihood of any emerging as major title contenders is unlikely at best.

Of the teams participating in the playoffs, only two sides look like they could make deep runs, but neither has had a great recent history in the tournament that could sway pundits into picking them as title contenders. All this means is that the teams most likely to win it all are already qualified.

Here is a look at the teams most likely to make noise at the European showcase:

Real Madrid

It has to start with the defending champions. Los Blancos accomplished the improbable when they topped Bayern Munich by a deafening 5-0 result over two legs. The team then made a historic comeback in the waning moments of the final before lifting the trophy.

Cristiano Ronaldo put up a historic 17 goals in the tournament, and while his form may be in question, he has a tremendous supporting cast. Gareth Bale had a solid first year for the team, but he is primed for a breakout after an injury-free preseason. The addition of Toni Kroos gives the team more presence and youth in the midfield, and James Rodriguez could provide more offensive punch and creativity.

The team's goaltending may be even better with the addition of Keylor Navas. The defense is still its weak point, but Madrid's tremendous counter attack coupled with its growing possession game should make it a title contender.

Bayern Munich

After suffering an embarrassing 4-0 loss at home in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid, Pep Guardiola and his men will probably look for some redemption. The team was seen as the most likely to defend the title but faltered in its major moment.

Many of these players, including Thomas Mueller, Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm, Jerome Boateng and Bastian Schweinsteiger, are coming off a World Cup championship and will be hungry to prove that their club is the best in the world. Arjen Robben will also be a tremendous threat, especially after his terrific World Cup performance. The big question here is whether tiki-taka stays or evolves into a style that is more direct.

Barcelona

The Catalonian side might be undergoing a major overhaul, but the talent of the team makes it a top contender.

Neymar and Luis Suarez will create nightmares for opposing defenses while the insertion of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo gives the team a significant upgrade in net. Lionel Messi and his form remain a question. He is undoubtedly a top player, but has struggled to reach the peaks of other glorious seasons since 2013.

How this team adapts to a revamped playing style also remains a big question. But the team has so much quality throughout the lineup that it is impossible to overlook it.

Chelsea

Jose Mourinho's side made it to the semifinals last season with a decent side. This season he enters the competition with a far better side. He has two elite netminders. He has rid himself of defensive hazard David Luiz. He added a creative midfielder in Cesc Fabregas. And he finally has a top striker who can score.

This is as complete a Chelsea side as anyone has seen in the last few years. This team will be dangerous and could win its second Champions League in four seasons.

Paris Saint-Germain

The Parisian side played well in the tournament last season, but had the misfortune of losing to Chelsea in London after a dominant first leg. The team is going to be better with the addition of Angel Di Maria. The defense is a big question mark for the side, especially with the arrival of David Luiz, but there are some who believe that PSG could improve its goaltending situation by acquiring Hugo Lloris from Tottenham Hotspur. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is keen to impress and is sure to do just that.
