NBA Trade Rumors 2014: Cleveland Cavaliers Still Expected to Land Kevin Love; T-Wolves Want Thaddeus Young
The discussions between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Minnesota Timberwolves about a trade involving Kevin Love have not progressed, but the Cavaliers are still favored to land the All-Star forward.
Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler reported that the Cavaliers will eventually get a deal done to acquire Love, who is expected to be dealt this summer or before next season's trade deadline after declining to sign a contract extension.
According to Kyler, Cleveland's offer makes the most sense for Minnesota in the long run because they would acquire a potential superstar in Andrew Wiggins and a promising prospect in Anthony Bennett - the first overall picks over the past two years - along with a future first-round pick.
However, Kyler noted that no deal is imminent at this point and it could take a while before Minnesota decides to pull the trigger on a trade, pointing out that the Timberwolves are showing no urgency in making a deal.
"If you are looking for closure on the Minnesota Timberwolves and Kevin Love you better pull up a chair, because it's going to be awhile," Kyler wrote. "There is zero urgency on the part of the Minnesota Timberwolves to make a deal."
Kyler clarified, though, that Minnesota's current stance doesn't mean that they will not trade their unhappy superstar, reiterating that team president and coach Flip Saunders is just waiting for other offers to come.
"That does not mean they won't agree to something, but what's coming out of the process is that while Wolves' president Flip Saunders and company have their favorites in the various proposals being talked about, they are still playing the bidding game with prospective teams," Kyler wrote.
ESPN also reported that the Timberwolves are interested in getting Philadelphia 76ers forward Thaddeus Young, who has also been mentioned in several trade rumors this summer.
The Timberwolves are reportedly intrigued with Young's capability to fill in the void Love will leave once a trade is finalized. It is still unknown, though, whether they are looking at a separate transaction or they are expecting that Love's suitors will make a move to acquire Young to improve their trade package.
