Why is LA Dodger Clayton Kershaw Throwing Baseballs at Jimmy Kimmel’s Head? [Video]
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw threw baseballs at late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel's head. Kershaw wasn't trying to injure Kimmel, he was completing a dare while appearing as a guest on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Monday night.
Kimmel challenged the professional to knock an apple off the top of his head by throwing a baseball.
"Do your best and try not to hit me in the face," Kimmel, 46, said while wearing protective eye goggles.
"No promises," Kershaw, 26, said. "It might take a few!"
After a few misses and one straight shot that pegged Kimmel in the face, Kershaw pitched a non-regulation ball that knocked the safety glasses before bouncing up to hit the apple off of Kimmel's head.
Kimmel didn't attempt to throw any pitched Kershaw's way.
After completing the dare, Kershaw sat down for an interview with Kimmel, where he discussed his time with the Dodgers and rivalry trash talk from San Francisco Giants fans.
"They do their homework," Kershaw said. "I feel like they go on Google or Wikipedia or whatever -- they have your dog's name, your wife's name. They come with it all! It's really impressive."
The pitcher didn't appear to feel disrespected by the comments; in fact, Kershaw said he has "a ton of respect" for his rivals' fans, saying "It's not just, 'you suck!' -- they have everything!"
The left-handed pitcher was signed to the Dodgers after a first-round pick in his amateur draft in 2006, with his contract running from 2008 through 2014 for $215 million.
Kimmel has been in the news recently after becoming a father for the third time with wife and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" writer Molly McNearney, who welcomed a baby girl, Jane Kimmel, on July 10. He and McNearney were married in 2013.
