2014 Guinness International Champions Cup Final Preview, Live Stream: Manchester United Face Rival Liverpool
English Premier League clubs Manchester United and Liverpool will renew their rivalry when they collide in the finals of the 2014 Guinness International Champions Cup on Monday at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
Both clubs exceeded expectations in the tournament as they swept their respective groups to earn a spot in the finals, which is expected to become one of the most watched soccer games in the United States.
Manchester United advanced to the finals with a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in a match witnessed by more than 109,000 fans at the Michigan Stadium. The Red Devils also won against AS Roma, 3-2, followed by a victory against Inter Milan in penalty shootout.
Manchester United's U.S. tour has been giving fans back home a reason to become optimistic about their team's chances next season after a tumultuous year under David Moyes, who was replaced by Louis van Gaal.
Darren Fletcher, who captained the team in their first three matches, said that Monday's match against Liverpool, will gauge the team's progress under Van Gaal.
"We have just beaten Real Madrid, the European champions, and we now want to go on and beat Liverpool," Fletcher said via Telegraph. "That is the sort of thing that gives the squad confidence and shows how far we have come."
On the other hand, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is determined to end Manchester United's winning streak under their new manager, while also adding that fans should expect an action-packed showdown even if the match is considered as a friendly.
"It's more than football. It's life. It is two cities, not very far apart, but historically they have always been huge rivals," Rodgers said. "It's arguably the biggest game in the world and for it to be here in the United States is wonderful for the supporters and the organizers. They are the two biggest clubs in Britain and two of the biggest in the world so it will be a fantastic game and we are looking forward to it."
The Manchester United-Liverpool match will kick off at 8 p.m. EST. US fans can catch the action on Fox Sports 1, while UK fans can watch the match on Sky Sports 1. The match will also be available through online live stream via Fox Soccer 2Go.
