HBO 'True Detective' Season 2 Episode & Cast Spoilers: Vince Vaughn in Talks to Join Kitsch, Farrell and Female Lead
Casting for the second season of HBO's "True Detective" has been of the biggest mysteries of the series ever since creator Nic Pizzolatto gave hints that were more confusing than enlightening.
According to the latest reports in Variety, Vince Vaughn is in talks to star in the popular American crime drama series, for a role that is yet unknown. However, rumors suggest that it is unlikely that Vaughn would be playing one of the show's lead detectives. It was also mentioned how the actor has been interested in taking part in the series for a while now and that the "The Internship" star had been campaigning with HBO to have a part on the show.
After the departure of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey from the Emmy-nominated television drama, a lot of speculations have been going around as to who would be replacing the detective duo.
Among the most recent casting possibilities, Taylor Kitsch and Colin Farrell have also been reported to be in talks to join "True Detective." With Pizzolatto's confirmation of the three lead characters, there is speculation that the third lead detective will be played by a woman, according to The Independent. Long-running speculations suggested that the role had been offered to Jessica Chastain.
With filming about to begin next month, casting is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks. The script is yet to be finalized by the creator of the series, Nic Pizzolatto, and HBO producers, allowing more flexibility in casting options.
According to HBO's head of programming last month, the new scripts for "True Detective" Season 2 are "more exciting" than the previous one. Season 2 will take place in California, featuring "four central roles," as Pizzolatto mentioned previously.
"True Detective" is expected to have eight episodes, all written by Pizzolatto, but each with a different director.
